Oilers vs Panthers Prediction & Same Game Parlay picks: Connor McDavid helps Oilers bounce back at +400 odds

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid

It didn’t take long for the Florida Panthers to strike first in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, which ultimately led to them taking Game 1 over the Edmonton Oilers. They’ll look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in Game 2 tonight, but will Connor McDavid and company have something to say about it? Let’s get into our best Oilers vs Panthers Same Game Parlay picks to answer that.

Along with our Oilers vs Panthers Same Game Parlay picks, be sure to check out all of our NHL predictions for the 2024 Stanley Cup Final!

Oilers vs Panthers Same Game Parlay (6/10)

Oilers ML (+120)

Over 5.5 goals (-110)

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-105)

Parlay odds +400

Edmonton Oilers ML (+120) over Florida Panthers

The quick answer to our opening question is yes, the Oilers will indeed have something to say about it. Truthfully, they had plenty to say in Game 1 as well, as they were the better team on the ice. Unfortunately, Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was the best overall player on the ice. There were several saves that the Panthers netminder made that we don’t expect to be replicated, which will also play a part in the next leg of our Oilers vs Panthers Same Game Parlay picks.

Regardless, Edmonton outshot Florida 14-4 in the first period alone, and Florida’s 2 goals came in just 5 shots. In other words, Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner was just not up to the caliber of Bobrovsky. Admittedly, he likely won’t be throughout the Stanley Cup Final, but we also aren’t anticipating such a gap between the 2 goalies. Per Moneypuck’s advanced metrics and expected analytics, Edmonton wins Game 1 nearly 9 times out of 10, so we have every reason to believe that they’ll bounce back before the series heads up north.

Over 5.5 goals (-110)

After having just mentioned expected outcomes from Moneypuck, it’s the perfect transition into expected goals. Not only was Edmonton the expected victor, but it wasn’t even close. The expected goals from Game 1 were just under 6 for Edmonton and less than 2 for Florida. While we already didn’t expect the Oilers to get shut out yet again, that only further supports a high-scoring game.

Oddsmakers are still providing us with a 5.5 total rather than 6, which only benefits things from our perspective. Furthermore, when these teams played in the regular season, both games went over the total. With Stuart Skinner not being exactly Vezina Trophy-caliber and Sergei Bobrovsky making some saves nearly impossible to replicate, we’ll add to our Oilers vs Panthers Same Game Parlay picks with over 5.5 goals in Game 2.

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-105)

Well, anytime there’s a prediction for an Oilers win and a high-scoring game, it goes without saying that Connor McDavid will be involved. Before diving into his greatness for the umpteenth time, we’d also suggest considering a Zach Hyman prop for him to score a goal as a standalone play. Like Edmonton was expected to score nearly 6 goals, he had the highest expected goal value on an individual basis, and his 14 are the most this postseason.

If Hyman is to find the back of the net, it will almost certainly be assisted by McDavid. With 26 assists this postseason, he is just 5 away from tying Wayne Gretzky’s record of 31, and that was after his team was shut out in Game 1. That also has McDavid with 31 total points this postseason, which is still the most of any skater. Along with the expected regression from Bobrovsky, expect multiple points from Connor McDavid tonight.
