‘Not a good thing’ – Manchester United fans’ chant for Ruben Amorim makes him uncomfortable

Ruben Amorim has admitted that he doesn’t like the chant that Manchester United fans sing for him.

The Portuguese boss has already proven to be a popular figure at Old Trafford, having led the club to two wins and a draw in his first three matches in charge.

What’s even better for fans is that the previously misfiring side have now scored eight goals in those three matches.

As a result, supporters have created a chant for Amorim to show their pride in the former Sporting boss, chanting ‘Ruben Amorim‘ to the tune of ‘Give it Up’ by KC and the Sunshine Band.

But despite saying that he is honoured to be serenaded each week, the 39-year-old has made his feelings very clear.

“I don’t like my chant, I don’t like it,” Amorim said.

“I feel a little bit, not embarrassed, but because I’m the coach, they have to chant for the players and for the club. So it’s not a good thing for me.

“I understand and really appreciate the connection with the supporters but I want them to support the team and the players because they are on the pitch and I’m outside the pitch.

“But I am really honoured by that, I feel a connection with the supporters but we know we need results to maintain that.”

After such a promising start to life in Manchester, Amorim faces his biggest challenge so far when his side face Arsenal on Wednesday night.

With the Gunners sitting second in the table, the Portuguese boss had a clear message for his players, saying: “It is important to be brave.

“When I say brave it is not to be pressing all the time higher up, it’s not the same. We have to understand the game, the moments of the game and we need to have the ball. That is a key point.

“We want to have the ball and we also want to dominate some moments of the game because we know that in this match it is hard to control all the game and if I have to say something [to the players] we have to be brave and play the game.”

Amorim added: “It is the best team that we faced by far but the test is every game.

“The last game yesterday [against Everton] was really tough. It was a 4-0 but you saw the game like I saw it.

“Every team now is a test, without so much minutes to train, trying to manage the number of minutes for a lot of players who cannot imagine one game.

“You have to know some players have to be out of the pitch in 60 minutes… 70 minutes, so it is really hard. In this moment everything is a test.

“Arsenal, for me, I know it’s hard for Manchester United to say but they are in a different point of their team. They are in a different moment.”
