NFL DFS Tournament Takes: Week 1 (Fantasy Football)

Footclan, we made it! Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is finally here, and I couldn’t be more pumped to dive back into the DraftKings tournament landscape with you all. After months of analyzing player moves, new coaching schemes, and offseason storylines, it’s time to put our knowledge to the test. As a past Milly Maker winner, my mission is to share the strategies and insights that have worked for me, giving you the edge to chase that same life-changing win. Let’s get ready to dominate Week 1!

When it comes to Week 1, there’s a unique edge we can capitalize on – uncertainty. With no recent game data, ownership projections can be less reliable, and that creates opportunities to get ahead of the field. My first tip is to embrace the unknown by targeting players in new roles or offenses with potential upside, while others stick to familiar names. Another key is to leverage player usage in the preseason — coaches often tip their hands about how they plan to deploy certain guys. Lastly, avoid over-investing in chalk plays. The public tends to gravitate toward high-profile matchups, but Week 1 is a perfect time to exploit lower-owned pivots who could go off.

With those tips in mind, let’s dive into my favorite players for Week 1.

Tournament Takes

Each week I’ll discuss my favorite stacks to utilize in large-field tournaments, ways to gain leverage on the field, and any other slate-specific thoughts.

Slate-Specific Thoughts

Game of the Week – Jaguars @ Dolphins (MIA -3.5, O/U 49)

It’s no secret that the Jaguars vs. Dolphins game will be one of the most popular matchups on the slate. With two explosive offenses and playmakers all over the field, this game has massive shootout potential and is sure to draw a lot of attention. While we just talked about the importance of being different in Week 1, that doesn’t mean we need to avoid the high-profile players entirely.

The Dolphins were one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the NFL in 2023, ranking near the top of the league in pass attempts per game. With Tua back under center and Mike McDaniel’s aggressive play-calling, you can expect Miami to air it out early and often. This opens up tons of opportunities for Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and even De’Von Achane out of the backfield.
