As we approach the end of the 2024 calendar year, the NBA season is over one-third complete. Teams are ramping up for a run in 2025 toward a playoff spot a few months later. There are seven games scheduled for Monday, December 30. I will look at four games with the Golden State Warriors hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers in the headlined game.
Cleveland Cavaliers versus Golden State Warriors
In this game, the two teams are heading in opposite directions. The Cavaliers sit on top of the NBA having won nine of their last ten games. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +29 on the Power Ranks Indicator. On the other hand, the Warriors have lost five of their last six, “dead” status and +8 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Cleveland is 9-3 on the road and Golden State is 7-7 at home. The Cavaliers have a scoring differential edge of +11.6 to +1.8. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the over/under line with a score prediction of 121-112 in favor of Cleveland with 72 percent confidence. Cleveland is the most consistent team in the league in terms of their favorite/underdog status. I like the Cavaliers in a game “over” the line.
Philadelphia 76ers versus Portland Trailblazers
After a brutal 3-14 start, the 76ers are 8-3 over the last 11. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +12 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Portland is 10-20 on the season, “ice cold up” and +6 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Philadelphia is 6-8 on the road Portland is 7-7 at home. Both teams have a negative scoring differential with the 76ers having a -4.1 to -9.3 edge. The teams have been “over” the line in nine of the last 12 games combined and the score prediction is 123-117 in favor of Portland with 72 percent confidence. The teams split last season and haven’t met yet this season. This game comes down to whether Joel Embiid plays. If he’s in the lineup, go with the 76ers, if not take the Trailblazers in a game “over” the line.
Denver Nuggets versus Utah Jazz
Denver is fifth in the Western Conference and Utah is second from the bottom. The Nuggets are “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +18 to +4 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the over/under line over the last two. Denver is +3 in scoring differential while Utah is -9 and the score prediction is Denver 123, Utah 114 with 61 percent confidence. The Nuggets won the two previous games this season between the teams by an average of 22.5 points. The Jazz have a 2-10 record at home this season. I like the Nuggets again in a double-digit victory but pass on the over/under bet.
Dallas Mavericks versus Sacramento Kings
Dallas is fourth in the Western Conference at 19-11 and Sacramento is 12th with a record of 13-18. The Kings are “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and want to break a five-game skid. Dallas is 7-3 over the last ten, “average down” and +23 to +5 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Both teams are trending in games “under” the line but the predicted total is 237 points with 62 percent confidence. The Mavericks have a scoring differential edge of +6.4 to +1.1 and have a significantly better road record than the Kings’ home record. Dallas is the more stable team, at +4 to -1 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The teams have not yet met this season. I like the Mavericks by perhaps double digits in a game “under” the line.
