NBA Finals 2024 Betting Odds

There are several different markets for betting on the NBA last matchup for the season. In addition to the NBA Finals series odds, there are a number of other options on the board at Bovada.

I explore the most popular betting markets, including the 2024 NBA Finals MVP odds for the Mavericks vs. Celtics.

Odds to Win the NBA Finals 2024

TEAM ODDS
Boston Celtics -210
Dallas Mavericks +175

The Boston Celtics (-210) are favored to win the 2024 NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks. As a -210 favorite, the Celtics have an implied probability of 67.7% to win their 18th Larry O’Brien Trophy in team history!

Although Luka Doncic and the Mavericks impressed in the Western Conference Championship, online sportsbooks are not confident in their chances. The Celtics opened the NBA season as the favorites, and they remain the team to beat in June.

Boston Celtics (-210)

The Celtics were regarded as the most well-rounded team in the NBA entering the season. That hasn’t changed since October! Boston finished first in the regular season at 64-18.

They concluded the season with a 14-game lead over the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference. It was possible due to this team emphasizing both ends of the floor. An efficient offense with a hard-nosed defense is tough to beat in the NBA.

Joe Mazzulla is the youngest head coach to reach the NBA Finals. Despite being only 35, the team has bought into his system and executed it perfectly.

Impact Players

Tatum is the centerpiece of a deep roster that demands production from all five starters and bench players. The 6-foot-8 small forward is averaging 26 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game! He leads the Celtics in points, rebounds, and assists in the playoffs.

Tatum’s running mate, Jaylen Brown, is having a productive campaign, too. Brown has netted 25 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per contest. He captured the Eastern Conference Finals MVP following an impressive series.

The X-factor for the Celtics has been Derrick White! The guard stepped up while Kristaps Porzingis missed time in the Pacers series.

The 29-year-old has averaged 17.8 points and 4.6 assists per game, including the game-winning shot to sweep the Pacers. Certainly, Jrue Holiday’s defensive impact can’t be underestimated as well.

Will Porzingis be ready for Game 1 of the NBA Finals? It’s likely, but nothing has been confirmed thus far.

Road to the NBA Finals

The Celtics made easy work of their first three opponents in the playoffs. Overall, they have a postseason record of 12-2. Boston lost one game against the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, then swept the Pacers in four games.

Boston leads all teams in the playoffs with a point differential of +10. The next closest squad is the Oklahoma City Thunder at +6.2! They lead with 111.4 points per game and second with a field goal percentage of 48.9%.

  • Round 1: Boston Celtics (4) – Miami Heat (1)
  • Round 2: Boston Celtics (4) – Cleveland Cavaliers (1)
  • Eastern Conference Finals: Boston Celtics (4) – Indiana Pacers (0)

Dallas Mavericks (+175)

The Mavericks’ preseason odds to win NBA Finals were tied for the 11th-best in the league at +2500. With Doncic at the controls, they were always going to have a chance, though.

Dallas finished the regular season with a cumulative record of 50-32 and fifth in the Western Conference. Although they were seven games behind the first-place Thunder, the Mavericks are in the NBA Finals

Doncic and the Mavericks have come up short before reaching the promised land in previous seasons. Will the 25-year-old Slovenian superstar continue his torrid pace, and are the Mavs a sharp NBA Finals betting pick?

Impact Players

The Mavericks’ key to success starts and ends with Doncic. Along with Kyrie Irving at his side, the Mavericks have two dynamic guards to throw at the Celtics.

Doncic enters the NBA Finals with an average of 28.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. He’s been the most complete player in the NBA postseason.

Irving is searching for his second ring after winning the championship with LeBron James with Cleveland in 2016. He has elevated his performance this spring, averaging 22.8 points and 5.2 assists per game.

The Mavericks need somebody else to have a big series if they’re going to win, though. P.J. Washington, Dereck Lively, and Derrick Jones Jr. will be asked to play a clutch role down the stretch.

Road to the NBA Finals

Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves were the media darling in the playoffs. However, NBA betting strategies that included the T-Wolves winning the championship didn’t work out.

The Mavericks bounced the Timberwolves with an impressive performance in Game 5. As the underdogs on the road, the Mavericks dispatched the Timberwolves for a 124-103 wire-to-wire victory!

Prior to ending the Timberwolves’ dreams, the Mavericks bypassed a quality Clippers and Thunder squad. They went through a veteran-landed Clippers squad and then beat up on two young up-and-coming clubs.

Dallas is sixth in scoring in the playoffs, averaging 107.9 points per game. They hold a point differential margin of +4 through the Western Conference Finals.

  • Round 1: Dallas Mavericks (4) – Los Angeles Clippers (2)
  • Round 2: Dallas Mavericks (4) – Oklahoma City Thunder (2)
  • Eastern Conference Finals: Dallas Mavericks (4) – Minnesota Timberwolves (1)

2024 NBA Finals Predictions and Best Bets

The Celtics were my 2024 NBA Finals betting pick back in October. They remained my selection entering the postseason. Now that the Finals have arrived, it’s difficult to fade the Celtics given their form!

Boston should be able to limit Doncic and Irving on the perimeter with their wings. While shutting them down completely is out of the question, throwing their rhythm off just enough will be a difference-maker.

Additionally, the Celtics have considerably more depth than the Mavericks. They don’t have to rely on one player catching fire to win this series. If Doncic isn’t at his absolute best, the Celtics can win this in five games.

The Celtics made it look easy without a fully healthy starting five. Porzingis’ return, which appears probable, provides the C’s with a big boost. I have the Celtics as a -275 favorite, so -210 is a solid NBA Finals pick. The Celtics’ series bet in six games is worth considering, too!
