Molly McCann folded by sickening body kick as she loses to Bruna Brasil at UFC 304

Molly McCann has always produced her biggest moments in the UFC on British soil.

However, it wasn’t to be when she met Bruna Brasil at UFC 304 in Manchester on Saturday night.

McCann took some punishing shots to the body[/caption]

Despite her best efforts, McCann dropped a unanimous defeat to the Brazilian MMA star with scorecards of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 in her opponent’s favour.

From the off, McCann came flying out of the gates looking to close the distance on her taller adversary.

But Brasil did well in halting McCann’s advances by attacking her body.

Early in the round, one of her knees strayed low into McCann’s groin, resulting in a pause in the action.

When the fight resumed, Brasil went right back to it.

A clean knee dropped McCann and as she made her way back to her feet she was staggered badly by a kick to the liver.

Yet to her credit, McCann bit down on her gumshield and saw out the opening stanza.

She seemed to be moving much better in the second round as she went on the offensive.

The Liverpudlian forced Brasil up against the cage and threw her foe down to the canvas, but she couldn’t hold her down for long.

When McCann attempted to drag Brasil back down to the mat, she was hip-tossed by ‘The Special One’ and closed out the round on her back.

In the third frame, Brasil opted to grapple with the Brit after tasting her power early in the round.

With less than sixty seconds left in the bout, McCann managed to jump on Brasil’s back and attempted to lock in a rear-naked choke.

However, she lost her grip and ended up underneath Brasil in guard.

In the end, all three judges had it for Brasil as McCann dropped to 14-7 overall and 7-6 in the UFC.

It was a disappointing result for McCann who had looked incredible in her strawweight debut against Diana Belbita in February.

Speaking after the fight, Brasil said: “I was really excited for this fight. The people in the gymnasium were amazing. My energy was up, so I’m very happy for the victory.

“The fight against Molly was a big challenge. It was in her house. I imagine my performance, I see it every day, and it was realised. It was amazing.”
