The 2024 MLB season is underway and there is much anticipation as to which team will rise to the top. There are some interesting early season matchups for April 7 with the Rangers hosting the Astros as the headlined game.
Baltimore Orioles versus Pittsburgh Pirates
Baltimore heads into Pittsburgh 4-2 for the season and “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus a “burning hot” Pittsburgh team that is 6-1 this season. The teams have been trending in games “over” the line and the score prediction is 5-2 in favor of the Orioles with 69 percent confidence. Baltimore has been the more consistent team regarding its favorite/underdog status. Baltimore is +23 to +21 on the Power Ranks Indicator. I like the Orioles in a game “over” the line.
New York Mets versus Cincinnati Reds
The two teams are heading in opposite directions early in the season. New York is 1-5 and “dead up” versus 4-2 and “average up” for Cincinnati. The Reds have a +18 to +8 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator and the score prediction is for a Reds’ blowout by the tune of 9-3 with 81 percent confidence. The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the line. Neither team has been particularly stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Reds won four of the six games between the teams last season. I like Cincinnati but pass on the over/under bet.
Cleveland Indians versus Minnesota Twins
In this AL Central battle, the Indians come in at 6-2 and the Twins are even at 3-3. Cleveland is “burning hot” versus “average down” and +27 versus +12 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Cleveland won the first game between the teams this season by a 4-2 score and the score prediction is for the Indians to prevail again, 5-4. The teams have played in six games over and six games under the line over the last 12. Note that neither team has been consistent, coming in a 0 and -1 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Twins at home by two runs or less in a game “over” the line.
Los Angeles Dodgers versus Chicago Cubs
Both teams come into play “burning hot” with the Dodgers at 7-2 and the Cubs at 4-2 on the season. The teams have been trending in games “over” the line and the 7-6 score prediction in favor of the Dodgers would likely place this game “over” as well. Los Angeles has a narrow +25 to +24 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Cubs are 3-0 at home this season and the Dodgers have won their only road game so far. Los Angeles has been extremely stable and the Cubs have been inconsistent regarding their favorite/underdog status. The teams haven’t met in a regular season game since the end of last April. I like the Dodgers by a single run in a game “over” the line.
Houston Astros versus Texas Rangers
In this AL West clash, the Rangers are off to a 4-2 start and the Astros are scuffling at 2-5. Texas has a +13 to +9 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator and “average up” versus “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have been even in games over and under the line over the last 12 and the score prediction is 6-4 in favor of the Rangers with 79 percent confidence. Texas took down Houston in the playoffs last year in seven games en route to their World Series championship. Note that the Rangers have been unstable in the early stages of the season, coming in at -2 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Astros’ woes to continue. Take the Rangers in a game “under” the line.
