Manchester United vs Everton predictions

After a false start at Portman Road last Sunday, Manchester United got their much sought after first win under new head coach Ruben Amorim in the 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The victory wasn’t without incident. Like last Sunday against Ipswich, United got off to a flying start, but they weren’t just pegged back against the Norwegians, they found themselves 2-1 down after 23 minutes.

The Red Devils did fight back, and a brace from striker Rasmus Hojlund saw them seal a 3-2 win, and give Amorim his first win in charge of the team.

Despite all the doom and gloom, United are now six matches without defeat in all competitions. The last time they tasted defeat was on October 27th, when they lost 2-1 away at West Ham in what was to be previous manager Erik ten Hag’s last dance.

Since the Dutchman departed, United are three without defeat in the Premier League. United has had one victory and two draws. The win was at Old Trafford over Leicester City (3-0), with the draws coming at home to Chelsea (1-1) and away to Ipswich (1-1), last Sunday.

Progress may well be slow going. But at least United fans now have some hope to cling too.

If United fans have hope to cling too, Everton fans must be in despair.

The Toffees sit 15th in the Premier League with just 11 points from 12 matches. They are just two points clear of relegation, although, with the likes of Leicester, Wolves, Ipswich and Southampton all below them, they should be safe from the drop.

In their last five in the Premier League, Everton has won one, drawn three, and lost one. But despite this, fans are still far from satisfied, and worried about relegation.

The win came away from home at Ipswich on Matchweek 8. Since then the Toffees have drawn at home with Fulham (1-1) and Brentford (0-0), drawn away at West Ham (0-0), and most worrying of all for the Everton fans, lost 1-0 away to Southampton.

Furthermore, Everton hasn’t scored in their last three matches. Their 1-0 loss to the Saints has been followed by two 0-0 draws, the most recent was the Brentford stalemate at Goodison Park last Saturday.

With no goals in the team, along with a negative mindset, worrying times lie ahead for the Everton faithful.

Manchester United vs Everton betting tips

When he was at Burnley, Sean Dyche had a reputation of being a party pooper. He will no doubt set up his Everton side to frustrate Manchester United. And despite the promise of better things to come under Ruben Amorim, we are still waiting for his version of United to start firing on all cylinders.

We expect Everton to be dogged and very hard to beat. And we don’t expect the Toffees to offer much of a goal threat. A low scoring win for United looks the best bet. More Manchester United v Everton wagering options can be found in our betting tips below:

Man Utd to win and under 4.5 goals

Okay, first thing first, there were over 4.5 goals in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.

But not one Manchester United Premier League match has witnessed five goals this season, and you have to go back to September for the last time Everton were involved in a five-goal thriller (they lost 3-2 at Aston Villa).

Furthermore, Everton are without a goal in their last three Premier League fixtures. So we suspect the only way five goals will be scored at Old Trafford on Sunday is if United score at least four of them.

Rasmus Hojlund to score anytime

It came as a bit of a surprise to see Marcus Rashford start in the striking role ahead of Rasmus Hojlund against Ipswich last Sunday.

Ruben Amorim has since stated publicly that he wants to help Rashford get back to his best, but that the player has to really want it. That appears to be Amorim questioning how badly Rashford wants to succeed.

So will the new United head coach give Rasmus Hojlund the nod to lead the line against Everton this weekend?

Well he certainly should do after the Dane’s brace against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Hojlund looks like a player who needs to be backed, and Amorim looks like a coach who can instill confidence in a player.

It’s highly unlikely the new boss won’t start with him against Everton, and as we witnessed with Hojlund last season (he scored seven goals in six Premier League matches over the Christmas/New Year period), when he starts scoring, he is capable of going on a streak.

Under 2.5 goals

We have gone for a win for Manchester United, but it isn’t impossible for Everton to frustrate the Red Devils on Sunday.

It wouldn’t be the first time in recent years that the Old Trafford faithful has had to sit through a dour 1 or 2-0 win. Indeed, 2-0 was the exact scoreline when the Toffees visited Old Trafford last season.

Everton is without a win in four. They’re not Man City, they aren’t going to come to Old Trafford and play expansive football. We all know what we are going to get.

It is possible that if United get off to yet another flying start under Ruben Amorim, that Everton may collapse and allow the Red Devils to cruise to victory.

But the more likely outcome is that United will struggle to break down a stubborn Everton team who may sneak a draw, or leave with a low scoring defeat.
