Manchester United make undesirable history without even playing in new low for Erik ten Hag

The unwanted records keep piling up for Manchester United – this time they did not even have to play to set another.

It is the first time in the Premier League era that United have gone two seasons in a row without a single player being named in the PFA Team of the Year.

It has been a tough time for Erik ten Hag as there were several unwanted achievements chalked up last season.

This included their lowest-ever league finish and most defeats for the club in the Premier League era.

It was also the first time in 34 years they have finished with a negative goal difference.

There were mitigating circumstances, with injuries piling up across the season, and it was softened by winning the FA Cup.

Now they have again gone another year without a player in the PFA Team of the Year.

Cristiano Ronaldo was their last player to even be named in the team from the 2021/22 season.

Before that, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw were named in the season before.

This time, the team is dominated by Man City and Arsenal stars, who make up nine of the total.

Gunners goalkeeper David Raya was named after keeping 16 clean sheets last season, while teammates Gabriel and William Saliba also made it.

Man City’s Kyle Walker and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk made up the rest of the defence.

Rodri, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard got the nod to complete the midfield trio.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Ollie Watkins were selected in attack.

The last time Man United went two seasons without a player in the team of the year was in 1986/87 and 1987/88.

Phil Foden won the top prize of PFA player of the year, while Cole Palmer was named young player of the year.

For Man United, they have started the season with a win beating Fulham in their Premier League opener.
