Kodai Senga Either Throws a No-Hitter or Gets Blown Up in the First Inning

Surprise! –

Kodai Senga hasn’t pitched since July 26th, going five and a third innings and striking out nine while giving up two runs on two hits. It was his only appearance of 2024 because he started the season on the injured list with a shoulder problem and then went back on the IL with a calf strain. He’s only made two appearances against the Phillies but has a career 1.46 ERA and allowed just two earned runs on six hits over 12.1 innings.

You know what’s going to happen, right? There are only two outcomes. Either this guy comes out on a heater and throws a bunch of garbage that the Phillies chase out of the zone en route to a no-hitter, or he gets blown up in the 1st and chased from the game. There is no middle ground. And if you’re the Mets, why not roll the dice? They’ve really had to exhaust that pitching staff over the past week or so just to make it to this point, and had originally lined up Tylor Megill to start game one, according to a bunch of reports. He’s there whenever Senga comes out, then they’re back on track for games 2, 3, 4, 5, if it gets that far.

No matter though. The Phillies need to have the same approach no matter who’s on the mound. Chicks dig the long ball, but ladies love plate discipline.
