Phillies vibes are back up temporarily after a series win in Kansas City with Garrett Stubbs going 4 for 4 on Sunday afternoon:

Stubbs hit a triple down the right field line, a bunt single, a double to left, and then he singled to right in his fourth at bat. He got back to the plate in the top of the 9th and was hit by a pitch, which should be illegal if a guy is on a cycle. Maybe we make a new rule. If this particular at-bat could result in a cycle, hitting the guy with a pitch or intentionally walking him awards an extra base. Put him on second.
But anyway, the Phillies MASHED this weekend. After a road series in Atlanta in which the team went 13 for 89 over three games, they had 34 hits combined on Saturday and Sunday and scored 22 runs. J.T. Realmuto hit two three-run home runs on Saturday, Kyle Schwarber looked more like himself, and Bryce Harper and Trea Turner weren’t totally inept, so it appears as though things are looking up. Throw in Ranger Suarez’s return (5 IP, 1 earned run, 6 Ks, one walk), and Kolby Allard giving up just two runs on eight hits and you have to have at least stepped back from the precipice, be it the Walt Whitman Bridge or Grand Canyon. I want you to get the word out there, that we back up.
The Braves weren’t able to sweep the Nationals at home this weekend, so the division lead goes back to six games for the Phillies. Astros at CBP this week, then Atlanta in a big one. We’re cautiously optimistic after this Royals series. And by the way, Stubbs will be at our Crossing Broad Phield Day event on September 12th at Garage in South Philly. We’ve gathered some of the region’s least-athletic content creators for an Olympic-style competition sponsored by our friends at Miller Lite:
