Graham Potter has held talks with Ajax about becoming their new manager, talkSPORT understands.
Potter, also admired by Manchester United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is ready to return to work a year after being sacked by Chelsea.
The 48-year-old thoroughly impressed at Brighton for three years and Chelsea hired him as their replacement for Thomas Tuchel in September 2022.
However, he was sacked after just seven months in charge, although could be on his way back into management with Ajax.
The 36-time Dutch champions have endured a poor season and sit sixth in the Eredivisie after a 6-0 loss to rivals Feyenoord.
John van ‘t Schip is currently in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season having just five games left to play.
Potter could therefore be the man to take over on a permanent basis in the summer as Ajax eye a return to their dominance.
It has been just over a year since he was sacked by Chelsea, leaving the club as they sat 11th in the Premier League.
He guided the club to the Champions League quarter-finals but both legs came after his dismissal, with club legend Frank Lampard in the dugout as caretaker boss.
Potter had to deal with a large squad amid the Blues’ mighty spending January spending and left with 12 wins to his name.
He rejected an approach for his services from Leicester City just days after he left Stamford Bridge.
Potter has also been linked with the job at United amid uncertainty over the future of Erik ten Hag on the Old Trafford touchline.
The Premier League giants face an uphill battle to secure a top four finish this season, although are in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Ratcliffe is an admirer of Potter’s work, although it remains to be seen where the coach will end up next.
