Euro 2024 semi-finals predictions

🥅 Fixtures 🏆 Likely winner
Spain vs France France
Netherlands vs England England

Spain have been the best team at Euro 2024 so far. They won their first four games of the tournament – the only team to do so. They then edged out Germany, the hosts and another strong contender, in the quarter-finals.

France have been less impressive up to now, but they do boast the sort of tournament knowhow that this Spain side lacks. They also have more options on the bench to change a game late on. This one should be close, but we like France’s chances of squeezing past Spain.

England have still only won one match in 90 minutes at this tournament – and that was their opening encounter against Serbia. The Three Lions have been unconvincing up to now, particularly in attack.

They are solid at the back, though, and they have enough talented individuals to make the difference in the final third. The Netherlands have played better football up to now, but Gareth Southgate’s side could grind this one out.

Euro 2024 finals predictions

🥅 Fixtures 🏆 Likely winner
France vs England France

France and England met in the quarter-finals of the World Cup 2022. It was an even game that could have gone either way, and England might have forced extra time had Harry Kane not missed a penalty. But in the end, France were 2-1 victors.

Neither side has lit up this tournament. Didier Deschamps and Gareth Southgate are both cautious managers who favour a defence-first approach. France and England have been defensively strong, but neither team has set the world alight in attack.

Ultimately, though, France look more cohesive and balanced than England – and that could make the difference. If this proves to be the Euro 2024 final, we anticipate a victory for Les Bleus.

Euro 2024 quarter-finals results

🥅 Fixtures 🏆 Winner
Spain vs Germany (2-1) Spain
Portugal vs France (0-0, P: 3-5) France
Netherlands vs Türkiye (2-1) Netherlands
England vs Switzerland – (1-1, P: 5:3) England

Spain edged out Germany in a thrilling quarter-final which almost went to penalties. Spain took the lead through Dani Olmo, but in the 89th minute, Florian Wirtz equalised to force extra time. With seconds left on the clock, a Mikel Merino header broke German hearts and sent Spain through to the semis.

Portugal vs France was more of an attritional affair. Despite the array of attacking talent across the pitch, no goals were scored in 120 minutes of football. Joao Felix’s miss in the penalty shoot-out proved costly, with France scoring all five of their spot-kicks to advance.

Netherlands came from a goal down to beat Turkey 2-1 in their clash on Saturday. The Crescent Stars took the lead and then tried to hold on to it, but there was plenty of time left in the game for the Dutch to respond. In the end, a Turkish own goal proved to be the winner for Ronald Koeman’s men.

England’s meeting with Switzerland went all the way to penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time. Manuel Akanji’s tame effort was saved by Jordan Pickford, whereas England converted each of their five penalties to book their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Round of 16 results

🥅 Fixtures/results 🏆 Winners
Spain vs Georgia (4-1) Spain
Germany vs Denmark (2-0) Germany
Portugal vs Slovenia (0-0, P: 3-0) Portugal
France vs Belgium (1-0) France
Romania vs Netherlands (0-3) Netherlands
Austria vs Türkiye Türkiye
England vs Slovakia (2-1) England
Switzerland vs Italy (2-0) Switzerland

Spain suffered a scare against Georgia, conceding the first goal in their last-16 clash. But la Roja’s class ultimately won the day as Luis de la Fuente’s side registered a 4-1 victory over the debutants. Germany, their quarter-final opponents, beat Denmark 2-0.

Portugal required a penalty shoot-out to see off Slovenia following a 0-0 draw after extra time. Diogo Costa was the Portuguese hero, saving all three of the spot-kicks he faced. Portugal are now preparing to face France, who beat Belgium 1-0 last time out.

The Netherlands cruised to a 3-0 victory over Romania. The Dutch did not set the tournament alight in the group phase, but they proved far too strong for their last-16 opponents. They will face Turkey, who edged out Austria 2-1 in an absorbing encounter on Tuesday.

England were almost beaten by Slovakia in the round of 16, but Jude Bellingham’s bicycle kick salvaged a 1-1 draw in second-half stoppage time. England then scored again in extra time to prevail. They will now face Switzerland, who were comfortable 2-0 winners against Italy in the first knockout round.

Euro 2024 group stage final results

Group A

Germany – Two wins and one draw have put Germany in a commanding position in Group A. The host nation thrashed Scotland 5-1 on matchday one, before registering a 2-0 victory over Hungary in their second game. A point against Switzerland was enough to send them through in top spot.

Scotland – Scotland did not do themselves justice in that 5-1 loss to Germany, but they turned in a much better display against Switzerland. A 1-1 draw left them in contention for a place in the knockout phase, which they lost after the Hungary defeat.

Hungary – Tipped as potential dark horses before the tournament began, Hungary have underwhelmed in the competition. Defeats by Switzerland (1-3) and Germany (0-2) have essentially eliminated them before the clash with Scotland.

Switzerland – Switzerland were smooth in their 3-1 victory over Hungary, but they struggled in a more intense encounter against Scotland. Still, a tally of five points brought them to the knockout phase of this year’s European Championship.

⚽ Euro 2024 Group A table (final)

Group A MP W D L Pts
1. Germany 3 2 1 0 7
2. Switzerland 3 1 2 0 5
3. Hungary 3 1 0 2 3
4. Scotland 3 0 1 2 1

The must-see match for Group A was Germany vs Switzerland – Sunday 23rd June, 8pm

Group B

Spain – Spain are through to the knockout phase as Group B winners with a game to spare. Victories over Croatia (3-0), Italy (1-0), and Albania (1-0) have given Luis de la Fuente’s side some breathing space, before the knockout phase.

Croatia – Croatia will feel their 3-0 defeat by Spain was harsh given the chances they created. But Zlatko Dalic’s side could only draw 2-2 with Albania on matchday two, leaving them in a precarious position ahead of their upcoming meeting with Italy, which Croatia managed to pull of a draw, but wasn’t enough to get them to the knockout phase.

Italy – Italy’s fate was determined by their clash with Croatia. A draw was enough to send the Azzurri through to the knockout stage. A 2-0 defeat against Switzerland stopped the champions from getting to the quarter-finals.

Albania – Albania have performed creditably against both Italy and Croatia so far, yet a return of one point from a possible six has left them vulnerable. They lost against Spain which robbed them from a chance of making it through to the last 16.

⚽ Euro 2024 Group B table

Group B MP W D L Pts
1. Spain 3 3 0 0 9
2. Italy 3 1 1 1 4
3. Croatia 3 0 2 1 2
4. Albania 3 0 1 2 1

The must-see match for Group B was Croatia vs Italy – Monday 24th June, 8pm

Group C

Slovenia – Slovenia came within seconds of sealing a place in the knockout stage last time out, but Serbia’s late equaliser denied them all three points. Matjaz Kek’s men managed a tie against England to advance to the last 16.

Denmark – Denmark turned in a spirited showing against England on matchday one, coming from a goal down to draw 1-1. They have two points to their name and after their draw with Serbia, was enough to progress to the next round.

Serbia – Serbia flattered to deceive for much of their 1-1 draw with Slovenia, but their late equaliser keeps them in the hunt. After their draw with Denmark on matchday three, they finished last in Group C.

England – England have not impressed at the European Championship up to now, but they have five points to their name nevertheless. That means Gareth Southgate’s side finished top of Group C, which they managed after a draw with Slovenia.

2. Denmark 3 0 3 0 3
3. Slovenia 3 0 3 0 3

Group D

Poland – Poland became the first team to be eliminated from Euro 2024 on Friday. They lost their first two games against the Netherlands and Austria, leaving them on zero points ahead of a meeting with France. Despite the draw with France, Poland finished bottom.

Netherlands – The Netherlands looked like they were playing for a draw against France last time out – and that is exactly what they got. They sit top of Group D on goals scored but have finished third after losing to Austria (3-2).

Austria – Austria are the team looking to overtake the Netherlands on matchday three. They beat Ronald Koeman’s side, and finished first in Group D.

France – France beat Austria 1-0 before the goalless draw with the Netherlands on Friday night. A draw against Poland secured them second spot.

⚽ Euro 2024 Group D table

Group D MP W D L Pts
1. Austria 3 1 2 0 5
2. France 3 0 3 0 3
3. Netherlands 3 0 3 0 3
4. Poland 3 0 2 1 2

The must-see match for Group D was Netherlands vs Austria – Tuesday 25 June, 5pm

Group E

Belgium – Belgium slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat by Slovakia on matchday one, but a 2-0 victory over Romania on Saturday night has lifted them right back into contention for the knockout phase. A draw with Ukraine managed to send them through in a group that all teams were tied for points.

Slovakia – Slovakia would have advanced to the knockout stage had they avoided defeat by Ukraine on matchday two, but a 2-1 defeat means they still have work to do. However, a draw with Romania in their final group game was enough to get them a match with England.

Romania – Romania swaggered their way to a 3-0 win against Ukraine in their first match, before going down to Belgium on Saturday. A draw with Slovakia was enough to see them at the top of group E.

Ukraine – Ukraine got off to the worst start imaginable in Germany with that 3-0 loss to Romania. But they came from behind to beat Slovakia last time out to keep their hopes alive. Unfortunately, a win against Belgium was not in the cards and they finished last in group E.

⚽ Euro 2024 Group E table

Group E MP W D L Pts
1. Romania 3 1 1 1 4
2. Belgium 3 1 1 1 4
3. Slovakia 3 1 1 1 4
4. Ukraine 3 1 1 1 4

The must-see match for Group E was Ukraine vs Belgium, Wednesday 26 June, 5pm

Group F

Türkiye – Türkiye impressed in a 3-1 victory over Georgia on matchday one, but they were second best in every department when they lost 3-0 to Portugal last time out. A win against Czech Republic (2-1) secured them Group F runners-up position.

Georgia – Georgia spurned a golden chance to beat Czech Republic with the last kick of the game on Saturday. The tournament debutants managed to beat Portugal (2-0) and made it through to the round of 16.

Portugal – Two triumphs in two games has sent Portugal through to the knockout phase as Group F winners with a game to spare. They still finished first, even after their surprise defeat against Georgia.

Czechia – With just one point to their name from a possible nine, Czech Republic failed to secure a place in the knockout phase of Euro 2024.

1. Portugal 3 2 0 1 6
2. Türkiye 3 2 0 1 6
