Chelsea vs Arsenal predictions

Chelsea and Arsenal are fourth and fifth respectively in the Premier League table after ten rounds of fixtures.

Both teams have identical records with 18 points apiece. The breakdown is five wins, three draws and two defeats. The Blues sit in the final Champions League position thanks to a superior goal difference of just two.

Despite this, there are huge differences between the two clubs in terms of expectations.

Even though they never would admit it publicly, Chelsea’s ambitions this season would have been to settle things down and try and get into the top four. So far things are going to plan for new head coach Enzo Maresca.

As for Arsenal, their ambition was to win the Premier League, and maybe even launch an assault on the Champions League.

The latter is still on. But the Premier League challenge is already faltering with the Gunners already seven points behind league leaders Liverpool.

There is still plenty of water to flow under the Premier League bridge, and it would surprise no one if Arsenal finish above Liverpool at the end of the season.

But they can’t afford to fall much further behind Arne Slot’s Reds or Pep’s Manchester City, whom they are now five points adrift of.

Chelsea warmed up for the London derby by thrashing FC Noah 8-0 in the Europa Conference League. Well, their reserves did.

In the Premier League, the Blues have only won two of their last five. A 4-2 home win over Brighton was followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge with high-flying Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea then failed their Anfield test, losing 2-1 to Arne Slot’s team in a match they could claim they deserved a point from.

The Blues then defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at the Bridge, with a 1-1 draw against an Erik ten Hag-less Manchester United, their most recent domestic result.

Arsenal has also only won two of their last five in the Premier League. They started the run with a 4-2 home win over Leicester, which was swiftly followed by another routine three points in a 3-1 win over Southampton.

That was when things started to go wrong for Mikel Arteta and his team.

A 2-0 away defeat to Bournemouth followed on from the international break.

Arsenal were then held to a 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool, no disgrace there. But then they went and lost 1-0 at St. James Park to Newcastle with what was a very toothless display with just one shot on target.

In team news, Cole Palmer is a doubt after Lisandro Martinez’s latest contribution to the beautiful game as we know it.

Palmer aside, Chelsea will be reverting back to their regular Premier League line up after making eleven changes for the Europa Conference League win on Thursday.

As for Arsenal, Declan Rice is a doubt, but Martin Odegaard did make his long awaited return from the bench in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Raheem Sterling isn’t eligible to face his parent club.

Chelsea vs Arsenal betting tips

Could there be a better time to be playing Arsenal from a Chelsea perspective? The Gunners are in the doldrums, while the Blues are flying high. Even their reserves are winning 8-0.

The Gunners have only won two of their last six in all competitions. They have also lost three. The wins came over Shakhtar Donetsk (1-0) in the Champions League and Preston (3-0) in the EFL Cup. They are three without a win in the Premier League and have lost their last two in all competitions.

Despite this, the Gunners should be able to stop the rot and leave Stamford Bridge with something. The return of the creative Martin Odegaard will more than make up for the loss of Rice if he doesn’t make it. More Chelsea vs Arsenal betting tips are below:

Draw and both teams to score

Chelsea don’t keep many clean sheets. Since their 3-0 win away at West Ham on Gameweek 5, they have only managed two shutouts in ten matches in all competitions. They were against Barrow in the EFL Cup and Noah in Thursday’s Europa Conference League mismatch.

Arsenal may have drawn a blank against Inter Milan on Wednesday but a look at the statistics shows the Gunners had 63% of the possession and 20 attempts on goal to Inter’s seven.

Only four were on target, and as well as being off with their shooting, the Gunners were also curtailed by the home team’s defensive capabilities.

Chelsea won’t be as defensively solid as Inter and we can see Arsenal scoring at the Bridge.

A scoring draw looks the most likely outcome.

⚽ Back the draw and both teams to score at 16/5 with Paddy Power ⚽

Martin Odegaard to score or assist

Martin Odegaard has only played three Premier League matches and made one Champions League appearance for Arsenal this season. It’s fair to say the Gunners have missed him.

Odegaard only returned from injury when he came on as a late substitute on Wednesday. With the timing of the Norwegians’ arrival (after 93 minutes for a head injury to Kai Havertz), it’s fairly obvious Arteta wasn’t planning on using him and was saving him for Chelsea.

There is absolutely no form to go on here. But with Arsenal desperate for someone to do something creative and get the team going, the situation looks tailor-made for a contribution from the club captain on Sunday.

Over 6.5 cards

There were seven yellow cards in the corresponding fixture last season. The match was a competitive 2-2 draw between the teams. The return fixture at the Emirates was a no-contest with Arsenal winning five nil. But despite this, there were still five yellow cards.

5.5 cards looks to be the spread in this match with over and under both priced at 5/6.

We are prepared to go with over 5.5 at 5/6, but with this London derby having a lot riding on it for both teams, we are expecting it to be a very feisty one.

Over 6.5 cards is a far more appealing looking 9/5 and we are instead going for that.
