Bucs vs. Eagles Friday Injury Report: Which Way Are The Bucs Trending?

They say that sometimes half the battle in the postseason is who the healthiest is by the end. Starting out the playoffs, it looks like the Bucs are in a good spot. At Friday’s practice, the three players that did not practice the day before were all out there today and participating. Baker Mayfield, Tristan Wirfs and K.J. Britt were all go.

Once again Mayfield was looked at very closely because the threw around the football. Mayfield didn’t look right in the last game where the Bucs won 9-0 but didn’t make a lot of offensive plays. Adding in an ankle injury to Mayfield, who already has an injury to his ribs, was not what Tampa Bay was looking for.

But after watching Mayfield throw, it definitely felt like he had more velocity on his passes than he did the week before. Keep in mind that these were during warmups and his intended targets were quarterbacks Kyle Trask and John Wolford along with offensive coordinator Dave Canales, quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis and other assistance coaches. Give those scenario it was still nice to see Mayfield sling it.

Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales didn’t have any reservations about Mayfield either, saying he looked better than a week ago.

“Definitely, with the ribs,” Canales said.  “He did – he looked better. I don’t want to get too much into all of that, though. I think it was a similar rhythm [to last week], trying to make sure we get him as healthy as possible by game day. It’s a very similar rhythm to what we did last week”

I’d also be remiss if we didn’t post this video of Wolford making a fine looking one-handed catch down the field with Mayfield on the throwing end of it.

Wirfs looks to be getting over his illness as he practiced on Friday. His shoulder is very taped but he’ll be good to go for Monday. Britt practiced for the first time in almost two weeks. That’s important for the Bucs in case Devin White falters or has an injury and needs to be replaced.

Wide receiver Chris Godwin had a rest day and should be practicing on Saturday.
