Bucs Sign CBs To Active Roster, Practice Squad

On Tuesday evening it was announced that the Bucs made a couple of roster moves to shore up the cornerback position. Keenan Isaac, who re-signed with the team’s practice squad after a short stint with the Panthers, was signed to the active roster.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson was the first to report the news.

Wilson also reported that Tampa Bay has signed cornerback Dallis Flowers to the practice squad to take Isaac’s place.

Keenan Isaac Provides Depth After Jamel Dean’s Injury

With the signing of Keenan Isaac to the active roster, the Bucs elevated him after cornerback Jamel Dean suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 51-27 win over the Saints. Dean has yet to play a full regular season during his six-year NFL career, so Isaac offers familiar depth and added insurance should he be unable to go against the Ravens on Monday night. He has gotten action in just one game this season, playing six snaps on special teams.

Undrafted rookie cornerback Tyrek Funderburk filled in admirably for Dean after he left the game, playing 86% of the snaps and recording four tackles. Without the veteran cornerback in the current picture, the depth chart is Zyon McCollum, Funderburk, Josh Hayes, and now Isaac.

Time will tell just how long Dean is out, but the team could elect to carry five cornerbacks on the 53-man roster from here on out.

Dallis Flowers Has NFL Experience At Cornerback, Kick Returner

Should the Bucs need another cornerback option, the addition of Dallis Flowers is intriguing on multiple levels. Flowers, 27, has the size that head coach Todd Bowles covets from the position at 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds. He has plenty of experience since entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Colts in 2022.

While in Indianapolis, Flowers played in 21 games and had five starts. He entered last season as a starting cornerback alongside Kenny Moore II, but he suffered an Achilles injury in Week 4 and was placed on injured reserve. He was waived earlier this month after giving up an 85-yard touchdown to Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., which resulted in him going viral for the wrong reason.

Flowers has 38 total tackles, three pass deflections, and a forced fumble in his NFL career. He also provides depth as a kick returner. In 2022, he led the league with a 31.1 yards per return average and returned one kick this season for 30 yards.
