Bucs At Chiefs Friday Injury Report: New Starter Added

At first glance, mostly everything looked the same for the Bucs during Friday’s practice, which was their second practice of the week since they play on Monday night football. Once again there was no Lavonte David, Bucky Irving, Greg Gaines or Sterling Shepard.

Irving was to be expected as he deals with a chronic toe injury that makes it look like he won’t be able to practice often for the rest of the season. As we learned from offensive coordinator Liam Coen, the Bucs are having a special “Bucky Walkthrough” at the end of each week to compensate for him not practicing during the week.

“That’s what we did last week before our Saturday practice in there,” Coen said. “We had another walkthrough prior to that as a unit, and it was really a Bucky walkthrough. So, we’re going to continue to have to do that and catch him up to speed.”

Shepard at least ran separately on another field as he inches closer to playing. David was at least seen in the locker room, which is a better sign for his availability for Monday’s game against the Chiefs on the road.

Big Injury News With Important Bucs’ DBs

The major difference for Friday’s practice was that free safety Antoine Winfield Jr. was added to the injury report after not being there the day before. Winfield was put on the list with a foot injury and was limited in practice.

Of course it was a foot injury that kept him out from Weeks 2 through 5. It’s not known at the moment whether this is the same foot that got re-aggravated or the other.

Tampa Bay got a little bit of good news with rookie nickel corner Tykee Smith. On Thursday, Smith was practicing wearing a block non-contact jersey. To start Friday’s practice Smith upgraded wearing a regular practice jersey, meaning he’s getting closer to being cleared from concussion protocol.

We’ll find out on Saturday whether or not Smith has fully cleared and can be ready to go. His practice status also upgraded from limited to fully participating.

Here was the injury report for the Bucs and Chiefs on Friday.
