The Bucs may possibly get another addition for their team before the last game of the season. Tampa Bay announced on Friday afternoon that they have activated rookie wide receiver Rakim Jarrett from injured reserve. Jarrett had been in the 21-day window to get activated and the Bucs since December 19 and only have a couple of more days remaining to get called up.
In order to open up a roster spot for Jarrett, the Bucs waived defensive tackle Deadrin Senat in a corresponding move. It won’t be surprising to find Senat on the practice squad soon.
Returning to practice this week, Jarrett has been a full participant and is lasted as questionable on the Bucs’ injury report.
The addition of Jarrett leaves Tampa Bay with six receivers active, it features Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, David Moore, Trey Palmer, Deven Thompkins and Jarrett all on the 53-man roster.
Jarrett injured his quad after last playing in Week 11 in a Bucs’ loss on the road to the 49ers. He had made a 41-yard catch and run where he was injured on the play. Going undrafted out of Maryland and signing with the Bucs, he returns to a rotation of a fairly young group that have each had their moments.
How Do The Bucs’ WRs Playing Time Look Jarrett Back?
As stated two paragraphs ago, the Bucs have six wide receivers on the roster. The Bucs have gone with a wide receiver by committee to fill out wide receiver three. David Moore had his moment in Green Bay, making two catches for 68 yards, including a 52-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
Trey Palmer has really come on as of late, making four catches for 42 yards against the Jaguars followed by another four receptions to rack up 84 yards and a touchdown last week facing the Saints. Deven Thompkins has his role as the team’s kick returner and is often featured in various end arounds on offense with sporadic playing time.
Before his injury, Jarrett was getting anywhere from 12% to 23% of the offensive snaps. He only has four receptions for 60 yards on the season, so if anything he’ll cut into the snaps of Thompkins and Moore while Palmer will stay at his number that has seen 55% to 85%.
There’s plenty of a talent to like about Jarrett and his last game before injury was his best. In a must-win game and a hopeful playoff run to come next, you never know when he may be called upon to make a play.
