Is Bronny a first-round talent? According to the latest odds, online bookies project the 6-foot-1 guard to go off the board in the second round. At -200, Bronny has a 66.7% implied probability of being drafted in the second.
Bronny’s NBA Draft odds indicate he has only a 20% chance of being drafted in the opening round. In fact, there is a stronger chance of Bronny not being drafted at all, with a 33.3% probability at +200 odds.
If Bronny weren’t confident in being drafted, he wouldn’t have announced his departure from USC and college basketball. In March, his camp made it clear he would declare for the 2024 NBA Draft based on the interest of the right teams.
“I don’t value a young player getting into the lottery as much as I do getting him on the right team in the right developmental situation,” said Bronny’s agent, Rich Paul.
With this in mind, the Bronny not being drafted prop bet doesn’t hold the most betting value at +200. It’s clear some teams have given Bronny’s camp the green light, and he passed on another year of college with this news.
That being said, he is a raw, undersized six-foot guard. There was some controversy when Bronny measured 6 feet, 1 ½ inches at the 2024 NBA Draft Combine. Previously, he had been listed as 6-foot-4 on USC’s roster.
Additionally, Bronny had a sporadic and inconsistent freshman campaign. He averaged 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting at USC. Bronny also chipped in with 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
For a small guard, you better shoot the three well or be an elite facilitator. However, Bronny shot just 26.7% from deep. He shot well at the NBA Draft Combine, but against no defenders. It could be just enough for GMs to put Bronny on their draft board, though.
Which Round Will Bronny James be Drafted?
There is a lot of work ahead of him before developing into an impact player, or even a role player, which doesn’t translate to the first round.
That points to a second-round selection, with the possible bonus of attracting LeBron James — and in the case of the Lakers — ensuring he retires as a Laker.
Bronny will likely get drafted, but he’ll wait for the second round to hear his name, so consider backing the -200 odds.

The Los Angeles Lakers (-130) opened as the favorites to draft Bronny, and their odds have only shortened since April. Two months ago, the Lakers had +200 odds to draft LeBron’s son.
Now, they are in the driver’s seat at -130, with a greater than 50% probability of going to the Lakers. The Phoenix Suns (+175) have an outside chance, but are in the mix with a 36.4% probability, at Bovada.
The Suns were reported as a team Bronny was set to meet with. The report added that he was only scheduled to have a meeting with a few teams before the NBA Draft Combine.
If the Suns are on his shortlist of teams, we can exclude a considerable number of NBA teams from being in the running for Bronny, given that he can influence where he plays.
Hence, the significant difference between the Suns and the Utah Jazz’s odds, who have the third-best price at +1400. NBA players in this era will simply demand a trade rather than giving maximum effort in practice.
If teams know he doesn’t want to be there, they won’t draft Bronny. It’s unlikely that LeBron James will demand a trade to his son’s team, either. The media have overblown that angle.

I backed the Bronny prop bet to the Lakers in April at +200, with the odds dropping since then. I still expect the Lakers to draft Bronny with the No. 56 overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft.
