Baker Mayfield will be ramping up his second season in Tampa Bay days from now as the Bucs’ training camp is set to begin. Before he starts making throws to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin again, he spent Saturday afternoon throwing to the many attendees of his youth football ProCamp at Land O’ Lakes High School.
Mayfield kicked off his first camp in Florida by receiving quite the introduction from all of the kids.
“We’re going to have some fun today,” Mayfield said. “First, I want to thank the parents, and everybody who brought their kids out. I tell everybody this, this first one we’ve done in Florida, we’ve done them in Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio, but I have more fun than the kids do and I truly mean that. Now that we’ve got a bunch of the signing stuff out of the way, we’re about to have some fun.”
Throughout the morning, there was plenty of fun to be had.
Baker Mayfield Has Just As Much Fun As The Kids At His Youth Football Camp
Baker Mayfield has gone on record for saying how much he enjoys playing football. You pair that with playing alongside a large crowd of first through eighth graders, and Mayfield’s exuberant energy fits right in.

While he did not let this one slide, Mayfield did allow some completions and threw to kids one-on-one as well as popping into each team’s games to throw the ball around and offer some encouragement and hands-on instruction. When talking about his camp, he was happy to see so many kids out there competing.
“The best part is the 40-yard dash, competition stuff, the games,” Mayfield said. “I enjoy watching these kids compete and it’s just so much fun. I think I get more enjoyment out of the whole process than they do, but it’s just fun being able to see kids love the game just like I do.”
After the 40-yard drills, he was right there to high-five them, creating plenty of smiles and jaw-dropping moments. This does pose a potential issue for the parents though, as many of the kids said they will never be washing their hands again.
Not only did all of them create childhood memories playing on the field, but each of them also received a t-shirt and camp team photo, an autographed card from Baker Mayfield, and a few of them got personal pictures with their favorite quarterback. For Mayfield, he enjoyed giving back and hosting something similar to what he got to experience as a kid growing up in Austin, Texas.
“Our high school, they put on a really big kind of QB-WR camp,” Mayfield added. “That was always the biggest one, and I always just did the youth ones that our school would put on. Didn’t really travel around and do a whole lot but enjoyed it around our area, that’s why I think it’s important that I’m able to do it wherever I’ve been and trying to spread the love.”
It was a big turnout on Saturday morning as the local Tampa Bay community got to see its quarterback up close. It was another case of Baker Mayfield building a connection with the city that has embraced him since he signed with the Bucs back in March of last year.
Mayfield stepped right in last year and became one of the biggest leaders on the team, and he was more than happy to come out and lead the kids through an action-packed youth football camp, building connections and sharing great moments with everyone who came out.
