2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year Odds and Predictions

There has been a major shake-up in the NFL Coach of the Year odds early in the season! We have some new favorites that deserver your attention. Expect the prices to continue to shift throughout the season, so make sure to monitor the top NFL bookies.

Let’s analyze the latest odds and share our updated 2024-25 NFL Coach of the Year predictions.

NFL Coach of the Year Odds for 2024–25

The following NFL Coach of the Year betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

COACH ODDS
Jim Harbaugh (Chargers) +700
Mike Macdonald (Seahawks) +750
Jerod Mayo (Patriots) +900
Matt Eberflus (Bears) +900
DeMeco Ryans (Texans) +1200
Kevin O’Connell (Vikings) +1200
Mike Tomlin (Steelers) +1200
Dan Campbell (Lions) +1500
Matt LaFleur (Packers) +1600
Raheem Morris (Falcons) +1800

Jim Harbaugh (+700) has catapulted to the top of the NFL Coach of the Year odds after winning in his Chargers debut. The win has sent his price soaring from +1,100 to +700, making him the new favorite to win the Coach of the Year award.

Additionally, rookie Seahawks’ head coach Mike Macdonald (+750) saw his price skyrocket. Macdonald has the second-shortest NFL Coach of the Year 2024-25 betting odds after surging from +1,200 to +750. In another huge move, Jerod Mayo went from a deep longshot to +900!

It also suggests that the race is wide open in 2024–25. According to Bovada’s NFL Coach of the Year odds, seven coaches have odds ranging from +700 to +1,200. It is worth mentioning that coaches like Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan, and John Harbaugh didn’t make the top 10 in odds.

NFL Coach of the Year 2024–25 Main Favorites

A handful of coaches are favorites to win the 2024–2025 Coach of the Year award. Most of the teams they coach missed the playoffs last season, and their overall rosters aren’t comparable to those of the top teams in the league.

Here is a look at the top five favorites to win the 2024–2025 Coach of the Year award.

Jim Harbaugh (+700)

Harbaugh and the Chargers made a statement out of the gate with a 22-10 win over the Raiders. Despite Justin Harbaugh passing for only 144 yards, the Chargers prevailed at home.

The win showed that the Chargers don’t need Harbaugh to pass 40 times to win games. This is going to be a very different-looking Chargers team. Right away, they looked much more physical and didn’t have to rely on winning a high-scoring game.

That may have to change against other opponents in the AFC West, like the Chiefs, but they have the advantage over Denver and Las Vegas. No one expects Harbaugh to beat the Chiefs, so he may not have to finish ahead to win NFL Coach of the Year.

However, that would solidify his spot at the top of the heap of coaches in the NFL. The Chiefs aren’t unbeatable, so Harbaugh will have a chance! As a more well-rounded squad with this coach directing the team, the Chargers will surprise a few teams.

I have the Chargers as a longshot bet to win the AFC Championship, so I can’t oppose Harbaugh winning the NFL Coach of the Year award!

Mike Macdonald (+750)

Seahawks’ head coach Mike Macdonald is a student of Harbaugh’s from his time as the defensive coordinator at Michigan. He has witnessed a meteoric rise through the coaching ranks.

The guy went from college football to the Ravens as John Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator to a head coaching role in three year’s time. The 37-year-old has something special about him and the Seahawks were wise to call his name.

Is it going to translate into NFL Coach of the Year? Beating the Denver Broncos by six points isn’t going to get my attention. They ousted rookie Bo Nix in a competitive game at home, which doesn’t move the meter.

The Seahawks have a solid team, but I don’t expect them to eclipse expectations vastly. For Macdonald to win the Coach of the Year, he has to go above and beyond. However, I just see the Seahawks having a fine year in his first season.

Jerod Mayo (+900)

The Patriots shocked the NFL and won outright as underdogs over the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the public heavily against the Patriots, head coach Jared Mayo had this team prepared to go into Cincinnati and win.

As a former linebacker of the Patriots, Mayo is a defensive-minded head coach that is going to be happy with low-scoring victories. With an offense that doesn’t move the ball very well, Mayo will continue to look to his defense to win ball games.

That said, the offense may not be as bad as first advertised. Jacoby Brissett is a veteran who can be trusted to keep the offense on track. He doesn’t force any bad errors and should allow the defense to give the offense quality field position.

However, will the Patriots continue to win? Recency bias can be a killer when it comes to NFL betting. The Bengals started slow in the early stages of last season, so that is something to consider.

Mayo has seen a huge boost to his odds to win NFL Coach of the Year, but I am not so quick to crown the new head coach. I want to see more from the Patriots before backing Mayo!

Matt Eberflus (+900)

Following a topsy-turvy second season as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Eberflus entered the 2024–25 campaign with lofty expectations. In the season opener, the Bears and Eberflus came back to defeat the Tennessee Titans, 24-17.

It was an ugly win, but the Bears managed to pull it out behind special teams and the defense to win by a touchdown. Rookie Caleb WIlliams wasn’t perfect, though his first start will go down as a win in the record books.

Eberflus went through all the emotions last year. There were several weeks when he looked like a sitting duck and the next coach to be fired.

Heading into the off-season, Eberflus had the seventh-best odds of being fired on the NFL’s Black Monday. Now, he has the third-best odds to win NFL Coach of the Year in 2024–25. His price has remained fairly steady throughout the summer, with Eberflus the co-favorite for a brief moment earlier this month.

The front office did a tremendous job adding talent and depth to this roster in the off-season.

If Eberflus wins the Coach of the Year award, Bears’ GM Ryan Poles deserves part of that recognition. The organization drafted their potential franchise quarterback with the first overall pick of the NFL Draft, Caleb Williams.

Many fans and pundits are high on the USC rookie, but he is a huge boom-or-bust prospect. Williams will enter the regular season with the top odds to win the 2024–25 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, so expectations are certainly high.

Due to Williams and key off-season acquisitions, Eberflus’ 2025 NFL Coach of the Year odds skyrocketed from +1,600 to +900 since March. Additionally, the Bears have competitive odds to win the NFC North.

Nevertheless, there’s little betting value on Eberflus to win top honors here. With that in mind, he won’t be part of our 2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year betting picks.

DeMeco Ryans (+1,200)

Houston Texans’ head coach, DeMeco Ryans, has seen his NFL Coach of the Year odds improve over the past few weeks. In March, Ryans had +1,400 odds to win the 2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year.

Ryans moved down to +1,000 heading into Week 1, but is back up to +1,200 after the season opener at Bovada! This is interesting because the Texans held off the Colts for a 29-27 win. Nevertheless, bettors were not impressed, so other bench bosses saw their NFL Coach of the Year odds improve.

The former linebacker is in his second season as head coach. As a rookie bench boss, Ryans went 10-7 and led the Texans to the AFC Divisional Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

After C.J. Stroud’s incredible record-breaking NFL Rookie of the Year campaign, expectations are through the roof for the Texans. Currently, they have the shortest odds of winning the AFC South ahead of Stroud’s second season.

Ryans has turned the Texans into much more than just an offensive team, though. As expected from a hard-nosed former linebacker, the Texans prioritize defensive football. The culture has changed on both sides of the football in Houston.

He should be in the running for 2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year. If we were setting the betting lines, we’d flip Eberflus with Ryans!

Top NFL Coach of the Year Sleepers

Unlike most end-of-season awards, sleepers take home the Coach of the Year award at an alarming rate. That’s because it’s difficult to predict which coaches and teams will have to overcome adversity in the upcoming season.

Long shots for this award are often great value, considering there are only 32 coaches who can potentially win it. Here are some of my favorite COY value bets for the NFL after Week 1:

  1. Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell could have easily won NFL Coach of the Year last season. I don’t think anyone would have had any qualms with him winning the award. This year, the Lions are off to a quick start with a 26-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1.

As one of the teams favored to win the NFC Championship and finish with the best record, Campbell has to be considered as a serious contender. I expect the Lions to have a fantastic season, so at +1500, that is serious value to consider including on your card.

  2. Despite a Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, there is some value on the board for Matt LaFleur to win NFL Coach of the Year. The Packers lost a nail-biter to the Eagles in a competitive affair in Brazil.

Fortunately, Jordan Love will not have to go on the IL after suffering a leg injury late in the contest. Malik Willis is prepared to start in Week 2, but there is a chance that Love could play.

Nevertheless, I see the Packers being fine the rest of the season. It took them a while to get adjusted last year. The Packers didn’t get rolling into the second half of the season. I don’t anticipate it to be that long of a wait for the them to get into a groove.

With that said, this is a good bet on LaFleur to win Coach of the Year after falling to +1600 from +900 last week!

2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year Prediction and Betting Pick

Even prior to the Chargers’ win over the Raiders, I tabbed them as a longshot bet to win the AFC Championship. The +3,000 we got on the Chargers in the preseason is sure looking good now! I am sure if you backed the Chargers in The Sports Geek’s free NFL pick’em contest, you liked what you watched, too.

Although the odds don’t point to the Chargers winning the AFC title, there is enough of an opportunity at that price to consider them. The same applies to Harbaugh, who has generous enough NFL Coach of the Year odds to think about playing at +700.

He is the most proven and accomplished head coach among the top contenders. Regardless of what the likes of Reid and his brother John do this season, they are unlikely to win the award. Harbaugh won’t have to be concerned with them contending with him for Coach of the Year, so he looks like the best pick at +700!
