After Alabama (+1100) head coach Nick Saban retired, the Crimson Tide’s CFP odds took a tumble from +600 to +1100! The team has dropped back with the fifth-best price. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes (+375) have assumed the second-shortest odds to win the first 12-team College Football Playoff.

College Football Championship Favorites

As was the case last season, Georgia has opened as the betting favorite, with Alabama’s college football championship odds trailing closely behind.

Georgia Bulldogs Championship Odds (+335)

Georgia entered this past season seeking their third straight national title. After back-to-back championships with QB Stetson Bennett at the controls, the Bulldogs introduced a new QB to run the offense.

Under a new-look offense, Georgia had some growing pains, especially earlier on in the season. Aside from tight end Brock Bowers, the offense went into the year without any proven explosive playmakers. With Bennett off to the NFL, transitioning to Carson Beck took some time to adjust, as well.

Beck did eventually settle in and play solid football for the Bulldogs, though. He finished the season with 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 72.4 percent completions. This season, expect Beck to hit the ground running and have the offense humming early.

We expect to see Beck take a significant leap forward in his development. Beck will miss Bowers and wide receiver Ladd McConkey, but Dominic Lovett and Oscar Delp should take a step forward alongside Beck.

Several of the latest 2025 NFL Draft projections have Beck the first quarterback off the board ahead of Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Most NFL pundits expect a lot out of the 22-year-old senior. As do our experts at The Sports Geek!

Also, the addition of Miami transfer Colbie Young will play a pivotal role in Georgia’s offense. Former Vanderbilt Commodore, London Humphreys, joins Young as a transfer receiver heading to Athens, Georgia.

Offensive lineman Xavier Truss’ return to college will provide stability up front. The running game should be in good hands with Florida transfer Trevor Etienne. The 19-year-old gained 1,472 yards on 5.9 yards per carry in two seasons in Gainesville.

Georgia has had one of the most feared defenses in college football over the last few years. In 2023, the Bulldogs ranked in the Top 10, with an average of 291.3 yards yielded per game. Impact defensive lineman Jordan Hall suffered a lower leg fracture early in camp this summer, but should be ready for Week 1 against the Clemson Tigers.

We don’t foresee the Bulldogs’ defense regressing much. With a strong defense and Beck progressing, Georgia will quickly be back on the national scene in 2024-25.

Ohio State Buckeyes Championship Odds (+375)

Ohio State’s 2024-25 CFP National Championship betting odds have improved considerably since our initial analysis in January. The Buckeyes have shifted from the third-shortest odds at +800 to second at +375! Oddsmakers have Ohio State right on Georgia’s tails following the offseason.

Head coach Ryan Day needs this team to perform or his job is likely on the chopping block. With a 1-3 record against bitter rival Michigan in his career, Day needs to beat the Wolverines and land in the national title game. Otherwise, it’s difficult to envision Day remaining in Columbus.

He has ample talent at his disposal to lead Ohio State to the promised land this season. Equipped with a stable of talented quarterbacks, Ohio State has a good problem to have in camp. Former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard is atop the depth chart, but highly-touted youngsters Julian Sayin and Air Nolan have loads of untapped potential.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson returns to Ohio State in search of the Doak Walker Award. Henderson joins forces with Quinshon Judkins to form one of the best backfield rotations in the nation.

Behind an elite offensive line, expect Henderson and Judkins to be tough to stop in the Big Ten. New offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will have a lot of fun calling plays for this team.

Speaking of defense, Ohio State is expected to have a dominant unit in 2024-25. Last season, the Buckeyes conceded 146 points for 11 per game. With seven starters returning and some key acquisitions in the transfer portal, including Alabama safety Caleb Downs, the defense should be better this season!

Day has no more excuses with this level of talent. I believe it will come together, but Georgia still stands in their path. Nevertheless, consider the Buckeyes’ college football season win total in 2024-25!

Best College Football Championship Betting Value:

Oregon Ducks (+800)

Oregon (+800) will make the switch from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten for the 2024-25 season. With that comes more money for the school, but a tougher schedule, as well. The Ducks are scheduled to play both Michigan and Ohio State in their inaugural year in the Big Ten.

Public sentiment has risen on Oregon since the opening College Football Championship odds were released in January. Back then, the Ducks had a +1100 price to win the national title, but that has since dipped to +800 on sports betting apps and sites!

That said, the conference realignment has meant that most traditional powerhouses have a tougher schedule this season. Oregon isn’t alone in this regard. Dan Lanning’s group is bringing a strong squad with them to the Big Ten.

After four years with some of the best recruiting in the nation, it may very well all come together for the Ducks in 2024-25. They will lose starting QB Bo Nix, but immediately replace him with a plug-and-play option that will put up huge numbers.

Former UCF and Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel has agreed to pilot the Ducks’ offense in Eugene. With five years of starting experience, Gabriel brings a plethora of veteran leadership to Oregon.

In five years, Gabriel passed for 14,865 yards, 125 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. Last season, Gabriel recorded a career-high 69.3 completion percentage. Also, he rushed for a new career-high 12 touchdowns. Currently, he is the favorite in the Heisman Trophy odds for 2024-25.

Lanning’s offense is the perfect fit for Gabriel’s skill set. He will put up numbers against some of the best defenses in the Big Ten. With offensive lineman Ajani Cornelius announcing that he’s returning to Eugene, both tackles are back for Oregon on the line. Also, Indiana offensive lineman transfer Matthew Bedford provides depth up front.

Additionally, wide receivers Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, and tight ends Terrance Ferguson, and Patrick Herbert are returning to the Ducks. Versatile wide receiver Evan Stewart transferred to Oregon after a productive couple of years at Texas A&M.

Defensive playmakers Jordan Burch, Tysheem Johnson, and Jeffrey Bassa are back to provide the Ducks with a strong pass rush. The defense should be ready for the jump to compete with some of the best defensive units in the Big Ten.

After a disappointing 34-31 loss to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game, expect Oregon to make a big splash this season. They should reach the College Football Playoff and be a team that no one wants to draw.

Best College Football Championship Longshot:

Arizona Wildcats (+7500)

Following a big shake-up in the college football coaching landscape, former Arizona Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch accepted the Washington Huskies job. After Nick Saban retired, Alabama poached Kalen DeBoer from Washington. That led to Fisch departing the desert for the East Coast to replace DeBoer!

Fisch leaves a quality football program in Arizona. He might have second thoughts after watching the Wildcats play in September. Last season, no one foresaw the Washington Huskies being a top contender and landing in the national championship college football game.

Unless it was a diehard Huskies fan, there wasn’t a pundit that had Washington in their college football championship predictions. Could there be another diamond in the rough in 2024-25? Fisch’s former group could have something cooking in the desert.

After quietly finishing the season at 9-3 and a win in the Alamo Bowl over Oklahoma, 38-24, the Wildcats are a team to watch out for in 2024. Arizona (+7500) might have the next Michael Penix Jr. in Noah Fifita.

After supplanting Jayden de Laura as the starter, Fifita didn’t look back in Tucson. The native of Huntington Beach, California, passed for 2,869 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 72.4 percent completions.

As you will see this season, Fifita has an arm and can throw well on the run. With Oklahoma and Texas both heading to the SEC, the Fifita and the Wildcats might be the team to beat in the realigned Big 12.

Fifita will put up video game numbers and make the country give him attention. Also, Fifita will have weapons to work with, as most of the offense is returning to Tucson for the 2024-25 season. Most notably, wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan returns to Tucson despite Fisch’s exit.

After recording 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns on 90 receptions last season, McMillan and Fifita are set to put up monster numbers for head coach Brent Brennan.

The defense is capable enough and should show strides forward in 2024. The Wildcats finished 49th in the FBS, with an average of 365.8 yards allowed per game. We are confident that Fifita will give the defense plenty of room for error, but expect Arizona’s defense to hold up well.

At +7500 odds, Arizona is the best longshot bet to win the 2024-25 CFP National Championship.

College Football Championship Predictions

We expect plenty of craziness in the first season of the expanded College Football Playoff. With the SEC and Big Ten contenders facing tougher schedules this season, there should be several twists and turns to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Some favorites have questions on their rosters going into the offseason. Alabama needs to fix their offensive line, and they are down talent on defense from last season. Meanwhile, Texas is losing its dangerous wide receiver core to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Georgia is saying goodbye to Bowers, but Beck is expected to elevate his game tremendously in 2024. Beck should develop into a QB that makes players around him better.

The addition of running back Etienne is likely to provide the ground game with a lift. Despite playing on a bad Florida squad, Etienne was a constant contributor to Billy Napier’s team. Etienne will instantly chew up yardage for Georgia’s offense.

Additionally, the Bulldogs’ defense is well-positioned for another elite campaign. Combined with Beck’s breakout campaign, Georgia has a good chance of getting back on top this season.

Ohio State will prove to be a formidable opponent, and they certainly deserve their +375 College Football Championship odds. However, give me Smart over Day when the pressure is on in the CFP.

At +335, the Bulldogs are our best bet to win the 2024-25 CFP National Championship.
