From Wednesday’s press conference:
“The criticism of this offense should come to me. It is my offense. I was hired to do a job here. And I’m committed to that. The criticism should come at me. I think it unfairly goes to Brian because he’s calling the plays.”

Nick Sirianni said that Matt Patricia won’t be running his defensive scheme — it’ll be Sean Desai’s — but there will be changes as the #Eagles go.

Alright, so… we’ve got Brian Johnson calling Nick Sirianni’s offense, and Matt Patricia calling Sean Desai’s defense. Not saying that’s an impossible setup, but it doesn’t seem ideal, right? Johnson has been here for a couple of years, so he should know the offense like the back of his hand, but Patricia comes in mid-season to call the defensive plays using the scheme of the guy who hasn’t even been here for a full year. Neither one of those situations feels like “best practice,” as they say in the corporate world. If you’re going to do a self audit or figure out a way to maximize the process, you’d think that the architects of the various systems would also then be in charge of the execution of those systems. These are not autonomous operations. I can’t imagine you’d be operating at peak efficiency by having the non-designers call the actual plays, unless Johnson stinks and Shane Steichen was just that good. Imagine if Slash wrote some amazing guitar part but then handed it to the guy from Nickelback to play play in the studio. That would be crazy.
