As we begin to gear up for the weekend, we have a solid 9-game slate in the NHL. We have 2 of the Eastern Conference’s best with the Bruins vs Lightning and a classic Sidney Crosby vs Alex Ovechkin matchup with the Penguins and Capitals facing off. Those are just 2 of the early games, and we have action all throughout the night. That also means plenty of opportunities to find the most value and piece together those picks. We’ve done that for you here to grab an incredible payout to cover your bets for the weekend to come.
Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Washington Capitals 3-way ML (+130) over Pittsburgh Penguins
Let’s get things started with that aforementioned rivalry between the Capitals and Penguins. It’s been a classic for nearly 20 years now thanks to Ovechkin and Crosby. Ove was the first overall draft pick in 2004, and Crosby was the same pick the following year in 2005. They’ve both lived up to the hype and have had great battles on their way to the Hall of Fame. Tonight’s clash will be in Washington, which should be a great boost for the Caps.
They’ll be returning home from a rough road trip, but they’re continuing to get healthier. Enforcer Tom Wilson is back on the ice, as is Ove’s right-hand man in Nicklas Backstrom. As for the Pens, they have not been great on the road, specifically their goaltending. Starter Tristan Jarry is also not 100%, as he was not even in net in their most recent game. In that matchup, the Pens allowed 6 goals to the Panthers, and that was at home. They got the win with 7 goals, but the Caps have allowed the 9th-fewest goals per game this season. Therefore, we’ll back Ove to continue finding the back of the net and lead his team to a win.
Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+135) over Buffalo Sabres
The next matchup we’re targeting isn’t exactly the same type of rivalry. The Jets and Sabres are in different conferences, so they don’t meet often. However, they have both been great in their own right this season. Buffalo’s offense has been dynamic this season, as they’re tied with the Boston Bruins for the most goals per game. They’ll be put to the test with this game, which is a true good-on-good matchup. The Jets goaltending has been incredible behind starter Connor Hellebuyck.
As a team, they’re allowing the 4th-fewest goals per game. We’re backing them to keep up that trend on home ice. It’s also because of the Sabres’ weak goaltending. They’ve needed to produce so many goals because they’re also allowing the 10th-most goals per game. That’s something the Jets can take advantage of with Kyle Connor and company, as they score the 9th-most goals per game at home. Similarly, the goaltending improves on home ice, and bumps up to the 2nd-best. With that in mind, the Jets should be the ones flying high over the Sabres tonight.
Minnesota Wild -1.5 (+105) over Philadelphia Flyers
Wrapping things up is another home team puck line play. This one is likely a bit more obvious to even the more casual fan. The Flyers have been a mess the past couple of seasons and are ahead of only the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Metro Division. Their -23 goal differential is also the 3rd-worst in the entire Eastern Conference. Now they’ll have to face a Wild team that has the luxury of heading back to Minnesota.
They just had to face a great Lightning team in Tampa Bay, so this should be a welcomed change. Even against the Lightning, they still struck first and scored on all-world goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. It shouldn’t take much to beat the Flyers by multiple goals either. The last time these teams met was also in Minnesota, which the Wild won by a final score of 4-1. Not much more should be expected from the Flyers, as they score the 6th-fewest goals per game when outside of Philly. The Eagles may be flying high in the NFL, but Minnesota should run wild over the Flyers at home.
