Footclan, it is an absolute honor and privilege to be able to share my tournament thoughts with you on a weekly basis this season. My goal is to give you an extra resource to use when creating your lineups. I usually play one or two hand-built lineups every week and I’ve had much success in my career playing that way. Each week I’ll discuss my favorite stacks to utilize in large-field tournaments, ways to gain leverage on the field, and any other slate-specific thoughts.
In Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season, I won the Milly Maker and several other six-figure contests on DraftKings. I’ve also been to five live finals where I have competed against some of the best players in the industry. I’m so excited to be able to help you gain an advantage and win some big money this year!
Last Sunday we saw Ja’Marr Chase break the slate, so congratulations if you had him. Unfortunately for me, I had Justin Jefferson who went down with a hammy and only put up 5 points. My main lineup was actually very competitive as I was able to find some nice value, but I just couldn’t put it all together. But enough of the past, let’s focus on the future.
Slate Specific Thoughts
On Monday I was looking at some of the implied totals on the main slate, and I noticed that there was not a single game projected over 50 points for the first time all season. Some of that has to do with weather concerns in couple of games, but overall, there’s just not a ton of firepower on this slate. A few injuries have opened a ton of value at the running back and wide receiver positions, so we’re going to have to decide which chalk we want to eat, and which chalk we want to fade. However, there are also a ton of players in great spots that will potentially be overlooked by the field, and this is where we separate ourselves.
Game of the Week
Arizona Cardinals @ LA Rams (O/U 47.5)
Cooper Kupp is back from injury, but stepped in right away to his usual role, and DraftKings has lifted his price to $9,000. He commanded 12 targets and caught 8 of them for 118 yards. Puka Nacua’s role was in question with Kupp returning but he was still heavily involved with 11 targets and 7 catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. The Rams have one of the most pass heavy offense in the NFL, averaging about 40 attempts per game, so both Nacua and Kupp can both produce at a high level. I don’t love the price at $8,000 unless you roll with double stack, it’s just not going to be cheap. Kyren Williams is sitting at $6,500 and I feel comfortable with him in the stack or as a one-off. For the Cardinals, James Conner will not be playing so we’re probably looking at a committee approach between Keontay Ingram and Emari Demarcado. Even with their cheap price tags, I’m just not interested with so much value at running back this week. Marquise Brown is the main target here and he’s had at least 16 DK points in each of the last 4 games. We have what seems to be a nice discount of $5,300 for Hollywood. Frankly, Zach Ertz is my favorite player to come back with for the Cardinals because tight end is my favorite position to punt and with Ertz being only $3,600, he fits right in.
