Neymar has explained his main motivation behind signing for Al Hilal… and it isn’t his eye-watering salary.
The 31-year-old ended his six years at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, becoming the latest star to join the Saudi Pro League, signing for a fee that that could rise to £86million.
But despite reports stating the Brazilian will earn around £138m per season, the star says it’s his desire to ‘write new sporting history’ that persuaded him to join Al Hilal.
“I have achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places,” Neymar said.
“I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment.
“I have heard a lot and learned that I am following a long list of Brazilian players who have played in Saudi Arabia over the years, so I believe it is the desired place.
“Al Hilal is a giant club with fantastic fans, and it is the best in Asia. This gives me a feeling that it is the right decision for me at the right time with the right club.
“I love winning and scoring goals, and I plan to continue doing that in Saudi Arabia and with Al Hilal.”
Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic all completed shock moves to the club this summer too, signing from Wolves, Chelsea and Lazio respectively.
But unlike his new teammates, Neymar has a whole load of very specific, luxurious demands included in the deal that’s made him the third best paid star in the league behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
According to The Sun, the talented forward has asked Al Hilal’s owners for three luxury cars costing £510,000 combined – a Bentley Continental GP, an Aston Martin DBX and a Lamborghini Hurcana – as well as four Mercedes G Wagons for his entourage.
He’s also requested a Mercedes van with a driver to be available at all times for him, his family and friends.
On top of all that, Neymar has also asked for a constant supply of Acai juice in his fridge, three saunas at his home, five full-time workers including a sous chef to assist his personal chef and two cleaners.
That’s not where his requests stop, either.
Neymar also wants all costs of his day off expenses such as hotels, restaurants and cities to be covered by Al Hilal’s owners, a private plane when he needs to travel, a pool at least 10 meters large and 40 meters long and for his house to have at least 25 rooms.
The former Barcelona star, who had been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, leaves PSG with five Ligue Un titles under his belt from his five years there.
