Another week in Major League Baseball is wrapping up with a full 15-game slate on Sunday. It includes the Sunday Night Game of the Week on ESPN between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox. The bookend game at 11:35 am on Peacock pits the Los Angeles Angels against the Cleveland Indians. Needless to say, there are plenty of options as we try to come up with some successful YRFI/NRFI bets. We have won 19 of our last 24 YRFI/NRFI bets here at Pickswise.
This market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours (or maybe a lot less now that games are not as long on average!) to see if your wager hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning.
Here are my best YRFI/NRFI bets for Sunday as we try to keep , and also be sure to check out all of our MLB picks.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Baltimore Orioles: NRFI (-128)
Mitch Keller is taking the mound for Pittsburgh on Sunday and that is immediate good news for NRFI bettors. Keller is 4-1 with a 2.72 ERA and 1.09 WHIP to go along with 56 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 49.2 innings of work. The right-hander has given up a first-inning run only once in his last 4 appearances. Nobody in the Orioles’ lineup has gotten more than 3 career at-bats against him, so there is no familiarity in their favor. It should also be noted that the O’s have scored 2 runs or fewer in 4 of their last 6 games.
Baltimore is countering with Kyle Gibson, who is 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA. If not for a 6-run outing earlier this month against Kansas City, his ERA would be under 4.00. Gibson has made 5 consecutive starts without allowing a run in the opening frame. These 2 teams played to an anemic 2-0 Orioles win on Saturday, so both pitchers should like their chances.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Boston Red Sox: YRFI (-132)
Miles Mikolas of the Cardinals and Corey Kluber of the Red Sox have been YRFI machines this season – at least relative to other pitchers. Both guys have given up first-inning runs on 3 occasions. Mikolas has twice allowed 3 runs in the opening frame of play and Kluber surrendered a 3-spot to Minnesota on April 19. The 2 right-handers haven’t been any good in general, either. Mikolas is saddled with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP; Kluber is 2-4 with a 6.29 ERA – including a laughable 7.71 mark at home.
Justin Turner, Boston’s #2 hitter, doubled and scored in the first inning of a 4-3 loss on Saturday. He should have a good chance of doing more early damage in the series finale, as the veteran is 2-for-4 lifetime against Mikolas with a double and a walk. Of course, the YRFI may have already cashed by the time Turner and company come to the plate. A struggling Kluber will have to face the likes of Paul Goldschmidt and – if anyone gets on base – Nolan Arenado. Goldschmidt has 14 hits in the last 8 games and Arenado homered on Saturday.
