Harry Kane wonder-goal leaves Jamal Musiala stunned but Xabi Alonso gives Bayern Munich another headache

Harry Kane’s ridiculous scoring run at Bayern Munich continued with perhaps his best goal yet in Germany.

The England captain scored his 21st Bundesliga goal of the season in stunning fashion with a long range curler in a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Kane was outside the box when he fired in

Linking up again with his best friend in Bavaria, Thomas Muller, Kane picked out the corner of the Wolfsburg net to give Bayern a 2-0 lead in their final game before the winter break.

It was a brilliant effort by Kane, and teammate Jamal Musiala was in awe of the strike, immediately placing both hands on his head as he ran over to celebrate with the former Tottenham man.

It was arguably his best yet in a Bayern shirt, but the 30-year-old has plenty to pick from.

Kane reached the 20-goal mark faster than any other player in Bundesliga history, and is currently on course to register 48 goals in 34 games.

That would be a new record, with Robert Lewandowski holding the crown for his 41 in 2020/21.

Boss Thomas Tuchel said: “If you look at his goal and the way he played in the second half, he was our first defender. How he holds on to the ball, tracks back, defends – his performances have been top.

“He’s a top personality, leader, top player – the complete package.”

Things are far from perfect for Kane so far, though, with Bayern losing the DFL Super Cup in his debut, and they were later knocked out of the DFB Pokal by third tier Saarbrucken.

Kane is trophyless so far in his professional career, and he also has the unwelcome sight of Bayer Leverkusen currently leading the league under Xabi Alonso.

While Bayern were struggling to a cagey 2-1 win thanks to Max Arnold’s consolation, Leverkusen were once again flying.

The team from North Rhine-Westphalia thrashed Bochum 4-0, meaning they will stay top at Christmas and the new year, four points ahead of Bayern with a game more played.

The drubbing made it a staggering 81 goals in 25 games for Leverkusen under Alonso this season, with the Spaniard having his team playing arguably the best attacking football in Europe.

More worrying than that, though, from a Bayern perspective, is who was on the scoresheet.

There was plenty of hope in Bavaria that Leverkusen’s title charge would collapse in the new year with key starting XI regulars Victor Boniface and Edmond Tapsoba heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, there’s now hope that top scorer Boniface can be replaced, with Patrick Schick scoring a stunning hat-trick.

The Czech forward and Euro 2020 superstar has barely played since 2022 with a number of serious injury issues, but now he’s back.

Alonso was keen to give Schick plenty of time to fully recover, but the timing of his return couldn’t be better for Leverkusen, and conversely worse for Bayern and Kane.
