The Bucs were inside at practice on Wednesday as the city of Tampa begins their brief excursion this year with a season that rest of the country refers to as winter. All of the attention immediately gravitated to whether or not Baker Mayfield would be able to do anything during the session.
Mayfield was seen hanging out on the other side of the field with the offensive linemen. Because it was a walkthrough practice where the Bucs only had shorts and t-shirts, there wasn’t much movement going on. What could be seen was Mayfield with his arms crossed as the Bucs’ starters watched special teams drills.
What does it all mean for this week? Todd Bowles answered up all the questions about Mayfield’s ability for today and the game.
“He’s feeling a lot better,” Bowles said. Then when asked if he expects Mayfield to play this weekend, Bowles replied “I do.”
He also spokes about his quarterback’s toughness.
“That’s the way he was brought up and coached,” Bowles said. “He’s got an old-school mentality. He’s got a work ethic that is undeniable. He loves to play the game and he does everything he can every week to be ready to play.”
Sounds like Baker Mayfield should play on Sunday. Todd Bowles said he expects him to be available. #Bucs pic.twitter.com/G5JSyexa3Y

Other than the curiosity over Mayfield, practice didn’t have too many other notable differences. Inside linebacker Lavonte David and cornerback Jamel Dean were out again while inside linebacker Devin White was limited.
SirVocea Dennis is sick, so he was sent home. Defensive tackle Mike Greene didn’t practice either with a calf injury. Outside linebacker YaYa Diaby was on with an ankle injury, but he was limited, and it’s a walkthrough.
An indoor light practice for the #Bucs. Players wore just shorts and t-shirts.
There was no Lavonte David or Jamel Dean.
