Bob Kelly’s Alleged Attacker is a Sea Isle Local who was Charged with Simple Assault Earlier this Summer

The man who allegedly sucker punched FOX 29’s Bob Kelly has a court date next week in Cape May.

That’s according to a complaint-summons issued by Sea Isle City police and obtained by Crossing Broad:

Multiple sources tell Crossing Broad that Patrick Iannone recently checked himself out of rehab. He’s accused of striking Kelly during a charity event in Sea Isle this past weekend, explained in the blurb above:

“The defendant did knowingly and purposely cause significant bodily injury to the victim, specifically, by striking the victim with a closed fist on the left side of his face. The victim would then lose consciousness. The victim also received lacerations to the top portion and bottom portion of his eye socket. This is in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(7), a crime of the third degree.”

The offense is described as “AGG ASSAULT-ATTEMPT/CAUSE SIGNIFICANT BODILY INJURY.” Sources told Crossing Broad that Iannone was chased out of the bar by security and apprehended down the street. Kelly did not require stitches but was glued up instead and returned to FOX 29 on Tuesday morning.

According to public records, Iannone recently faced a simple assault offense in June that looks to have been reduced to disorderly conduct via plea deal:

On the disposition comments there, it reads “HEARD IN LOWER TWP MC/CAN NOT RETURN TO DEAD DOG BAR,” which appears to be a typo in reference to Sea Isle’s Dead Dog Saloon. There was a paired criminal mischief complaint resulting in a $500 fine.

Several sources told Crossing Broad that Iannone has family connections to the Sea Isle Police department and a local Real Estate company as well. Police directed us to a press release on the incident while offering no further comment, though this release does not appear to be posted anywhere publicly, so we have a request in with the city’s public relations department and will update the story if more details become available.

EDIT – here’s the release from SIC police:

The Sea Isle City Police announce Patrick Iannone, 21, of Sea Isle City was charged with aggravated assault stemming from an incident that took place at the Oar House Pub Sunday, July 30, at approximately 7:20pm. Iannone was later released on a summons. The SICPD Detective Division continues its investigation of the case.
