Best NHL prop bets for today, 4/26 – Devon Toews takes advantage

Colorado Avalanche skater Nathan MacKinnon

The first night of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs without a full 4-game slate was just last night, and now we’re down to just 2 tonight. However, we’ll always be here to break it down. With half the games to choose from, you may not love any of the sides or totals available to you. That’s especially true with a heavy favorite like the Boston Bruins. Despite that, we’ve still found value in the player prop market. In fact, we’ve found a great way to approach both matchups tonight. So, if you’d like to get action on both games, keep reading for our 2 best NHL player props.

Along with our NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Devon Toews over 0.5 assists (-115)

You may not recognize our first skater, but if you watch the Kraken vs. Avalanche game tonight, you’ll certainly hear Devon Toews’ name called. Colorado’s star defenseman Cale Makar was suspended by the NHL for 1 game yesterday following his hit on Seattle’s Jared McCann in Game 4. The penalty on the ice was reduced from a 5-minute major to a 2-minute minor, but upon review, the league decided it warranted a suspension. That means Toews, a fellow defenseman, will need to step up.

Let’s also not treat him like a true back-up either. He’s still on the ice just as much as Makar and can be just as effective. Toews was on the ice for nearly 25 minutes in Game 4, and that was with Makar in the lineup. He’s also already had 3 assists through the 4 games in this series. With elite goal-scorers like Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen at his side, there will be no shortage of opportunities. We’re willing to focus on his assist prop, as 42 of his 48 points were assists this season. The Avs also need to bounce back on home ice, and Toews should take advantage of his big opportunity.

David Pastrnak over 0.5 goals (+100)

Our second skater is far more recognizable, as he’s been the best skater on the best team. The Boston Bruins head back home to TD Garden to potentially close out their series against the Florida Panthers. They just won back-to-back games in South Beach, and we’re looking at Pastrnak to lead the way in closing things out. He had an MVP-caliber regular season, with his 61 goals only behind Connor McDavid. It’s also worth noting that Pastrnak came through for us in Game 1 with this same prop.

He hasn’t been putting up multiple points on a nightly basis like he did in the regular season, but he can still be trusted to find the back of the net. He’s done so in Game 1 and Game 3, so it’s only fitting for him to do so again in Game 5. If you’re looking for consistency against a single opponent, Pastrnak’s also got us covered there. In all 4 games against the Panthers this season, Pastrnak scored a goal. There’s a reason this prop comes with this type of price rather than the incredible +220 goal prop we cashed the other night with Edmonton Oilers’ Evander Kane. We may not get the same type of payout as that hit, but a win is a win.
