The exciting All-Star Weekend finally came to an end, which means it’s time for the 2nd half of the season of player props. After a struggling 1st month of the season when data is scarce, I’ve been 62-42 and +36.8 units since. Let’s keep those good times rolling, which is what we’re expecting from the skaters we’ve outlined for tonight’s player props. Both are two young, rising stars who were just a part of the All-Star Weekend festivities.
Along with our NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Jack Hughes over 1.5 points (+130)
When most fans think of young skaters who are becoming the face of the NHL, Jack Hughes is likely the first one that comes to mind. He has been the leader of a New Jersey Devils team that has been the surprise story of the season. Their 32-13-4 record has them in 2nd place in the Metro Division, and Hughes has been incredible. The 21-year-old looks poised for a career that involves multiple Hart Trophies for the league’s MVP. His 64 points through 49 games are the 6th-most in the NHL and his +16 plus-minus is impressive as well.
He and the Devils will be on home ice with a fantastic matchup to open their 2nd half of the season. They’ll be welcoming in the Vancouver Canucks. Even aside from trading away captain Bo Horvat, they have been trending downward. They’ve allowed the 2nd-most goals per game this season and have been even worse recently. Since the calendar turned to 2023, they’ve allowed 4.23 goals per game, easily the most in the league. The Devils went up to Vancouver earlier in the year and Hughes had both a goal and an assist. Now on home ice, we’re expecting another big night.
Jason Robertson over 1.5 points (+110)
Another young star of the NHL is ironically enough on the Dallas Stars. The 23-year-old certainly deserved his spot on the Central Division All-Star roster, as he’s leading the team at the top of the entire Western Conference. Robertson is just ahead of Hughes with 66 points this season, which is tied for 5th-most in the NHL. Similarly, his +26 plus-minus is tied for the 4th-most in the league. Those ranks should only improve given the Stars matchup tonight.
They get to take on the Anaheim Ducks, who have allowed the 2nd-most goals per game since January 1. They’ll also be on the front leg of a back-to-back, and they know they’ll have a much better chance of winning tomorrow night against the Chicago Blackhawks. Beating the Stars at home has been quite a rough task for even good teams, as they’re scoring 3.71 goals per game in Dallas, the 4th-best home mark. That was on full display when they took on the Ducks at home earlier this year. That was a crushing 5-0 victory in which Robertson had a hat trick. We don’t even need that from him tonight to still get a great plus-money payout.
