Best Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants touchdown scorer bets: Tony Pollard steps forward

Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys

Week 1 of the NFL season has finally arrived, as we’re in for a treat on Sunday night after a long afternoon of nonstop football. As is always the case, the opening Sunday night game is a blockbuster matchup, and this one is an NFC East clash between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. Dallas is a team that just barely missed out on making the NFC Championship Game back in January, and this team is a definite Super Bowl contender this season. On the other side, the Giants are coming off a season in which they do made the NFC Divisional Round, overachieving massively from preseason expectations.

Here are my best touchdown scorer bets for the game. Additionally, make sure to also check out our full NFL Week 1 predictions.

Tony Pollard, RB, Dallas Cowboys (-125 at FanDuel)

A common narrative coming into this game will be that the Cowboys “own” the Giants in recent years. While that’s true to a degree, those Giant teams were nothing special at all on either side of the ball. What has always held true is the success Dallas has had on the ground against New York in recent years, which we’ll be targeting for the purpose of our first pick. In 12 games against the Giants since 2016, Ezekiel Elliot racked up 11 touchdowns, and he wasn’t even known for his pass-catching. In steps Tony Pollard until the role of full-time starting running back for the Cowboys, and I expect him to shoulder a massive load on the ground and in catching passes out of the backfield. One of Dallas’ best weapons should find the end zone against a familiar foe in this season opener.

Isaiah Hodgins, WR, New York Giants (+370 at FanDuel)

New York had issues at the wide receiver position throughout the 2022 season, but the emergence of Isaiah Hodgins provided Daniel Jones and company a much-needed downfield spark as the season neared its conclusion. Hodgins caught touchdowns in 5 of the Giants’ last 6 games, including TD receptions against NFC East rivals Philadelphia and Washington. He’ll look to be a big play wideout for Jones once again on Sunday, especially since he shouldn’t have to draw the matchup of Travon Diggs on the other side. New York spent money in the offseason to bring in former Raiders tight end Darren Waller, as Giants ownership knows they need to improve at the skill positions to take another step forward. With Waller and Saquon Barkley expected to garner most of the attention, I’ll gladly take a shot on Hodgins at this price.
