Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion predictions

Arsenal must keep fighting until the end.

Manchester City are now strong favourites to win the Premier League title after a 10-match winning streak propelled them to the summit of the standings.

But Pep Guardiola’s side have not yet done enough to be crowned champions, and Arsenal must continue to push them until the race is mathematically over.

As things stand City hold a one-point advantage over their closest challengers. They also have a game in hand, which will come against Brighton & Hove Albion later this month,

The defending champions play first this weekend. How they fare at Goodison Park could have a bearing on this encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

If City slip up – which is unlikely but not impossible after Everton’s 5-1 thumping of Brighton last time out – Arsenal will have renewed belief at kick-off.

If Guardiola’s men win comfortably, the atmosphere at the Emirates might be flatter than usual, at least initially.

Even if the championship crown is ultimately out of reach, Arsenal have enough incentive to finish the campaign strongly.

Given how well they have performed in 2022/23, it would be a huge shame if their season fizzled out.

Mikel Arteta’s men can still get to 90 points, which would be a magnificent achievement for a team which finished fifth last term.

Whatever happens in City’s meeting with Everton, we can expect Arsenal to throw everything at Brighton on Sunday.

Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion betting tips

Arsenal can keep the pressure on Manchester City with another victory at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Arsenal to win – 3/4 (Spreadex)

Brighton have had an excellent campaign. They reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup for only the third time in the club’s history, and they still have a good chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

There have been signs of late, however, that Roberto De Zerbi’s side might be running out of steam.

Their astonishing 5-1 loss to Everton on Monday was probably Brighton’s worst performance of the season. They recently lost to Nottingham Forest too, and have won just two of their last five encounters.

Brighton still have five fixtures to fulfil this term, so any tiredness within the squad is unlikely to dissipate any time soon.

De Zerbi has shuffled his pack of late, experimenting with players in different positions and blooding a few youngsters.

After the thumping by Everton, he will probably return to plan A for this weekend’s trip to the capital.

The Seagulls are certainly capable of giving Arsenal something to think about. They will not simply sit deep and hope for the best.

Brighton have the second-highest average possession in the division, so they could take the ball away from the hosts for long spells. Meanwhile only Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United have amassed more points away from home this season.

But the Gunners will be confident of getting the job done on home turf. We fancy their chances of keeping the heat on City for a little while longer.

Both teams to score – 1/2 (Spreadex)

One small silver lining from Brighton’s defeat by Everton was that they at least managed to find the back of the net.

The Seagulls have not had much trouble in that regard in recent weeks. They have scored in each of their last 11 Premier League games, and have drawn a blank just once since mid-October.

Brighton certainly pack a punch in attack. Solly March looks set to miss out through injury, but he has suffered a dip in form anyway.

The re-availability of Evan Ferguson is a boost, even if De Zerbi may opt to start Danny Welbeck against his former employers.

As for Arsenal, they have scored in each of their last 15 top-flight assignments, including twice last weekend against the team with the Premier League’s meanest defence, Newcastle.

Clean sheets have been elusive at the Emirates, though: Arsenal have managed just one in their last nine matches in front of their own fans.

With all that in mind, we anticipate attacks getting the better of defences in the penultimate game of the Premier League weekend.

Over 3.5 goals – 5/4 (Spreadex)

On a similar note, it is worth adding this wager to your weekend bet slip.

Brighton are an attack-minded team and they will not discard their principles for this trip to north London. They are the second-highest away scorers in the Premier League this season, behind just Manchester City.

Sticking to their philosophy is not mere dogmatism either. In their recent 3-3 draw with Arsenal, Southampton showed that committing bodies forward in a balanced manner can be a path to a positive result at the Emirates.

Only City have scored more goals per game than Arsenal this term. Brighton sit fourth in that ranking, only slightly behind Liverpool in third.

The Gunners’ recent home games have certainly been entertaining. All of their last seven have featured four goals or more.

This one could follow suit. Both teams will be keen to grasp the opportunity as they seek positive conclusions to their campaigns.
