Frank Warren has told talkSPORT that he will be sending an official written offer across to Anthony Joshua’s team today [Tuesday, September 6] for a fight with Tyson Fury to take place in the UK in November.
On Monday, the Gypsy King unexpectedly called out AJ for a showdown to take place before the end of this year.
Joshua took to social media to accept this idea, saying he would be willing to scrap his plans for comeback fights after his defeats to Oleksandr Usyk if Fury is serious.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn joined talkSPORT on Tuesday morning and expressed his doubts, but insisted they would take the fight if a serious and acceptable offer was received.
Warren has now told talkSPORT that this is exactly what he will be firing over to them in the coming hours.
“We’re sending a written offer across today to them,” Warren told White and Jordan on talkSPORT, “My son George spoke with Eddie Hearn yesterday.
“It’s us who have made the approach to give AJ a great opportunity to get himself back into the top level against the world champion Tyson.
“He’s willing to make that voluntary defence, so we’ll send the offer across today and then they’ll have to look at it and decide whether they wanna grab this with both hands.”
Asked when this fight would be, Warren replied: “In the UK and hopefully in November, that’s what we’re looking at.”
Regarding the financial purse split terms of the offer, he added: “I could tell you, but I’m not going to tell you.
“They haven’t even seen the terms yet so I’m certainly not going to be discussing it publicly…
“The terms that we are gonna put forward I think are very, very fair.
“We’ll put it into writing and then they can make their decision.
“We’re talking about being very, very fair.
“Tyson is being extremely fair and if and when these come out, if they wanna publicise them, you’ll all be shocked.”
Warren concluded: “It’s perfect timing I think for AJ to accept it.
“For him to get himself back into a position either mandatory or to challenge for a world title is gonna take him a lot of time, so he should grab this with both hands in my opinion.
“But to his credit he has come out saying that he’s up for it.
“I’m not bad-mouthing them or the other side, all we’re interested in doing is making this fight.”
Despite Warren opting not to make the terms public, Fury did reveal them later on Tuesday.
The Gypsy King said in a video: “Hi guys, quick one, I’m being bombarded with messages on how much am I gonna pay AJ?
“Everyone’s saying 80/20, 70/30, 75/25.
“The actual answer is I’ve offered him 60/40.
“40 per cent of this amazing fight, because I want this fight to happen.
“He doesn’t have any excuses now not to take it.
“He can’t say I’ve lowballed him and offered him 20 per cent or 30 per cent.
“I’ve offered the people 40 per cent. Take it or leave it, let us know.”
Fury added in a separate comment: “I’ve offered him 60/40 that’s more than fair. I want this fight to happen.
He will never get a better offer. Straight WBC shot, the ball is in your court @AnthonyJoshua.”
