Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Odds and Predictions

If there will ever be a week to do nothing but sit on the couch and watch TV, it’s this one. Monday night brings the midseason finale of the sixth and final season of Better Call Saul. On Thursday, Disney+ will launch the first episode of its highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff.

In case you somehow missed it, Ewan McGregor is back to reprise his role as Obi-Wan. The new limited series, which will span six episodes, is set to take place 10 years after the events of Episode 3: The Revenge of the Sith.

Which Characters Will Make a Cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Yoda (+125)

At the end of Episode 3, the remaining Jedi all agree to go their separate ways. Emperor Palpatine called for the execution of every living Jedi via Order 66. That’s why Obi-Wan escapes to Tatooine, where we later see him as a reclusive old man in A New Hope. Yoda, the Jedi Master, makes his way to the swampy Dagobah, where he later meets up with Luke Skywalker.

Is there any real reason to expect Yoda to appear in this series? Yoda has likely already escaped to Dagobah, though we could certainly get a glimpse of him in some sort of flashback. The +125 odds on a Yoda cameo do offer some value.

Boba Fett (+150)

Boba Fett is alive and well between Episodes 3 and 4. We first see him in The Clone Wars as a child, but we know what happens eventually. Boba is one of the more revered characters in the Star Wars universe, which makes his apparent death in Return of the Jedi in the Sarlacc Pit a bit of a waste. The Great Pit of Carkoon is on Tatooine, where Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place, as well.

Disney+ has another standalone series called The Book of Boba Fett that details Boba’s escape from the Sarlacc, but that series takes place after Episode 6. Between that series, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka, there are plenty of other Star Wars series out there featuring Boba and other Mandalorian. I’m not sure the +150 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds on Boba Fett to make an appearance make a whole lot of sense.

At this point, there is enough Boba Fett content already out there. We don’t need to see him in this show, too.

Sabe (+150)

Sabe was one of Queen Amidala’s handmaidens, and she was featured prominently when the Trade Federation invaded Naboo in Episode 1. Sabe actually served as a stand-in for Queen Amidala when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn rescued Padmé in The Phantom Menace.

Frankly, I have no idea why we’d see Sabe in Obi-Wan. Queen Amidala has already died. The official Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer doesn’t seem to feature any planets that look much like Naboo, so a return to Theed seems pretty unlikely. I’ll pass on Sabe’s +150 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds.

Darth Maul (+150)

You may remember Darth Maul as the original antagonist in The Phantom Menace. The heavily-tattooed Dathomirian Zabrak killed Obi-Wan’s companion, Qui-Gon, with his double-edged lightsaber before being sliced in half by Obi-Wan himself. It sure looks as though that would be the end for Maul, but we later learn he was able to survive thanks to the force.

The showrunners decided that bringing Darth Vader back as the primary villain would be the best course of action, so we’ll have to pass on Maul’s +150 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds, unfortunately.

Jabba the Hutt (+700)

A New Hope came out over 40 years ago, so nostalgia is a major player in all of Disney’s various Star Wars reboots. Bringing back old characters is one good way to keep fans coming back for more. We obviously know Obi-Wan himself will feature heavily in his eponymous series, with Darth Vader, Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru, and a very young Luke Skywalker set to appear, as well.

The +700 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds on Jabba to make a cameo do offer plenty of upside. With much of the series likely to focus on Jabba’s home planet, I’d expect to see the gangster slither onto our screens at some point.

Chewbacca (+2500)

We only briefly see Chewbacca between Episodes 1 and 3. Yoda makes a trip to Kashyyk, the home planet of the Wookiees. Yoda mentions Chewbacca by name before he leaves. Otherwise, we don’t see Chewy again until Luke and Obi-Wan find him with Han Solo in the Mos Eisley Cantina in A New Hope. 

Chewbacca is one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe, but we don’t have much of a backstory on him. We obviously know he teams up with Han eventually, and the two find their way to Tatooine.

In the end, the +2500 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds on a Chewbacca cameo make sense if you’re in search of some betting value.

Han Solo (+3000)

Much like Boba Fett, Han Solo has enjoyed plenty of time in the limelight in recent years. In addition to Harrison Ford’s thrilling return for Episode 7, we also saw Alden Ehrenreich portray a younger version of the smuggler in Solo. 

Obi-Wan is significantly older than Han when we see them in A New Hope. There are too many moving parts standing in the way of a Han cameo in the upcoming series, so the +3000 Obi-Wan Kenobi odds are easy to fade.

Hologram Qui-Gon Jinn (+3500)

Qui-Gon is killed by Darth Maul toward the end of Episode 1, and we don’t see him again at any point throughout the saga. Qui-Gon, originally portrayed by Liam Neeson, plays a huge role in Obi-Wan’s upbringing, of course. Obi-Wan is Qui-Gon’s apprentice, and the two are side-by-side throughout The Phantom Menace.

In Revenge of the Sith, Yoda tells Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon has returned from the Netherworld of the Force. Additionally, Neeson has previously expressed interest in reprising his role in the future. There are a lot of ways the writers can sneak Qui-Gon into Obi-Wan Kenobi.
