Royal Ascot is nearing the off for the Summer spectacle at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire for the very best flat racing British horse racing has to offer.
The meeting gets underway from Tuesday, June 14 until Saturday June 18 featuring huge prize money, top-class racing, top hats and tails and tens of thousands spectators descending on the course each day.
Royal Ascot is synonymous with high fashion, dress codes, Pimms and enjoying the best horse racing in the world at a five-day festival attended by royalty and celebrities.
Last year’s festival was restricted to just 1,200 attendees but for the first time since 2019 fans can return to all areas of the incredible grandstand.
The maximum amount of spectators has reduced to 44,000 this year meaning the total should amount to around 220,000 racing fans seen over the course of the five days.
This is a special year for Royal Ascot which has always been at the fore of seeing Royalty attend the meeting in Berkshire, with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
But while attendances have been reduced to allow for a more comfortable experience, prize money has increased.
Royal Ascot will offer a grand total of £8.65m in prize money which is a significant hike in comparison to 2019’s £7.33m.
As a result, we are likely to see many more trainers taking their chance for a more lucrative return – this could have an effect on trainers from all around the world.
No matter what happens Royal Ascot remain unrivalled to most festivals.
Royal Ascot ante-post Betting tips
There are five feature races throughout the week that will hold the most prize money and mostly the better rated horses over a variety of distances.
Each day between Tuesday and Saturday there will be another huge race to focus on (all at 4.20pm) and these features and betting tips on them can be found below.
Tuesday – St James’s Palace Stakes Betting Tip
Native Trail 7/2
This shortened 1m competition is for three-year old colts and often the winners continue to go on to be some of the best one-milers around.
Pinatubo was only second to Palace Pier in 2020 but earned the nickname ‘Pinaturbo’ prior to this race winning multiple Group 1 contests topping a mark of 128.
Palace Pier only got an overall rating of 126 in comparison, who has beaten Poetic Flare (2021’s winner), Lope Y Fernandez and was only a neck behind the improving Baaeed who is set for greatness this season.
This race tends to hold entries from those who previously ran in the 2000 Guineas – Coroebus, Native Trail, Eydon, Luxembourg and Point Lonsdale take that with the former coming first.
Native Trail and Coroebus are the two favourited in the ante-post market in the Godolphin blue but stablemate and French Guineas raider Modern Games is also up there for a trio of entries.
With under a month to go there’s a plethora of contenders but these three will be the ones to beat.
Wednesday – Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Betting Tip
Mostahdaf 12/1
The feature race on the second day of the festival could be a huge one with the winner taking home a cool £400k.
It’s contested just shy of 1m2f and is another wide open Group 1 this year.
Love, the Aidan O’Brien-trained horse won it last year after winning the Yorkshire Oaks AND the Epsom Derby Oaks.
Baaeed is in contention for this but the well-sought after star could go to multiple races after winning the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May by over three lengths.
He’s most likely heading to the Queen Anne Stakes on the Tuesday of Royal Ascot where he is an odds-on shot.
This opens up a great value bet on Mostahdaf who was a ready winner at Sandown in April over this distance and is likely to be thereabouts for the Gosdens.
Thursday – Ascot Gold Cup Betting Tip
Stradivarius 9/2
Dettori promised an ’emotional farewell’ at York last time out for Stradivarius who had won five times at that track and the 51-year-old jockey didn’t disappoint with another Group victory in May.
That puts Stradivarius in good stead for this contest a race he won in 2020 by 10 lengths.
He’s not quite been seen to the same effect at this course since placing behind Trueshan in October but that win at York will be a great indicator of the staying power he still holds.
This 2m4f contest is ideal and if the ground is also good on the day then Strad will take all the beating.
Friday – Coronation Stakes Betting Tip
Inspiral 2/1
This race is going to be one of the most-watched for one reason, Inspiral.
Connections decided against going to the Irish 1000 Guineas at Curragh in May and instead heading to Ascot.
This is another impressive horse who wears the Cheveley Park Stud colours, however the 1000 Guineas winner at Newmarket also appeals.
Cachet is clearly a master at 1m but this 7f race won’t or shouldn’t put punters off this machine of a horse.
He followed up his 1000 Guineas win with a very close second in the French 1000 Guineas at Longchamp in May losing just by a head to NBA star Tony Parker’s horse.
Inspiral should still be the one to beat though and is still unbeaten for John & Thady Gosden; in Group 1, 2 and listed company in her last three races.
Saturday – Platinum Jubilee Stakes Betting Tip
Highfield Princess 16/1
The rather aptly named Highfield Princess gets the pick of the bunch at this early stage.
The 6f contest should suit the John Quinn-trained horse perfectly after winning the Group 2 in the Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes in May.
It wasn’t really close either as Jason Hart rode him clear by nearly three lengths in total and that followed a Class 2 success the previous month at Newcastle.
The 5-year-old mare has won at Ascot before too which is crucial, and that was the Buckingham Palace stakes among a field of 28.
