Nobody Loves Ruining an Aaron Nola Perfecto Like NBC Sports Philadelphia

We meet again, NBCS Philly.

It’s been a one-sided battle all season long because the director of the Phillies’ broadcasts would rather subtweet me than give us perspective as to why they do certain things, or why the broadcast has remained mostly the same the entire playoff drought. It’s not like I’m unfair. When they made the Keith Hernandez graphic during the season, I gave them kudos. We know you read the site. Sack up and atone for your sins.

Their latest crime against humanity took place in the middle of an Aaron Nola perfect game. Nobody loves ruining an Aaron Nola perfecto like their own broadcast team. It started with Taryn Hatcher last year during Nola’s start in San Diego. The next batter out of the break and it’s done:

Ladies and gentlemen, your new Phillies sideline reporter.

Now we have graphics like this added to the score bug? –

What are we doing here? This has to be the first time a team’s network has openly rooted against their own player to make history. Don’t tell me people needed that so they would stay on the game. Every Phillies fan has three different apps that told them Nola was perfect through six. It’s like Aaron Judge dropping in during college football on Saturday. It’s 2022. We know Judge is going for the AL record. If we want to find his at-bats we’ll do it. We didn’t need that or Michael Barkann making himself dizzier than Tua last Thursday:

And for the meatheads who say jinxes aren’t real, you’re wrong. Not talking to a pitcher when he has a perfect game or no hitter going is one of the only unwritten rules of baseball that I agree with. Obviously the Phillies thought so too, because there was nobody around Nola from the 4th inning on. He’d walk down the steps after retiring the side and the team would scatter like mice. It’s the first time Nola ever stuck to social distancing protocols.

We talked about this and more on today’s Crossing Broadcast. Give it a listen:
