NHL Wednesday parlay at mega (+868) odds, today 11/16: Sabres & Senators score with ease

Buffalo Sabres right wing Tage Thompson

It’s a slower NHL night, but it doesn’t mean we can’t make it a profitable one. With just 3 games on the board, that’s just enough for us to make a parlay with mega odds. We cashed one at +1160 to begin the week, so it’s only fitting to hit another mid-week. This one should cover your plays for the reminder of the week, and we’ve got some great matchups. All 3 games in action are divisional battles, so let’s check out how we expect them to play out.

Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for today’s action.

Buffalo Sabres vs Ottawa Senators – Over 6.5 (-135)

It’s no surprise that this game is priced so heavily towards the over. It will likely flip to 7 total goals on some books, so be sure to shop around for the best number. This is the only Eastern Conference clash and it’s the two teams at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. While that may make it sound like they’re struggling teams, they’ve each had their fair share of strong showings. Buffalo has pulled off big road wins over the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, and they scored 10 goals across those 2 games.

They’ll be on the road again for this matchup after having just been in Buffalo to face the Canucks last night. However, that should not prevent them from finding the back of the net. The Senators sit at the very bottom of the Atlantic primarily due to poor goaltending. They’ve allowed the 7th-most goals per game, and just allowed 4 goals to a primarily-defensive team in the New York Islanders at home on Monday night. Buffalo is the 5th-highest scoring team in the NHL, and can take advantage of that weakness. They too don’t defend particularly well when on the road. They’re allowing 3.5 goals per game outside of Buffalo, and will now be on a back-to-back. With that in mind, expect plenty of goals from both ends tonight.

St. Louis Blues 3-way ML (-105) over Chicago Blackhawks

We’re going to pivot away from the total for this Central Division battle. The Blues have been a strange case this season in terms of their streakiness. They opened up the season with 3 straight wins, then lost their next 8, and have now won each of their last 3 contests. While those types of teams can be hard to trust, we’re going to do so tonight. Part of that is due to their last 2 wins being against such strong opponents. They came against the Vegas Golden Knights, who lead the entire Western Conference, and the Colorado Avalanche, who are the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Better yet, both of those victories came on the road. That’s where the Blues find themselves tonight, to take on a Blackhawks team that was just shutout on their home ice. That was actually the 2nd time they’ve failed to score within their last 4 games. That doesn’t bode well when facing a goaltender in Jordan Binnington that is finding his groove. After saving 34 Golden Knight shots over the weekend, he just saved 45 Avalanche shots on Monday night. Chicago is almost entirely reliant on Patrick Kane at this point with Seth Jones on the injured list as well. The Blackhawks have lost 7 of their last 9 games, and we expect that trend to continue against St. Louis.

Edmonton Oilers ML over Los Angeles Kings & Over 6.5 (+185)

We’re finishing things off with a combo play. This is for the Oilers to both win and for the total to over 6.5 goals. That’s how Edmonton prefers to win games, which should come as no surprise with a team led by Connor McDavid. Alongside Leon Draisaitl, they are the top 2 point-scorers in the NHL. That alone is great reasoning for both the Oilers chances to win this matchup, and a high-scoring contest. McDavid is going for his 5th Hart Trophy for the most points in the league after winning each of the last 2 seasons. Draisaitl is routinely right behind him in that regard.

They’re likely to pad their stats against a Kings team that has not been sound defensively. They just allowed 4 goals in the first period alone to the Calgary Flames on Monday night. That too was a road game, which is where LA has struggled. They’ve now allowed the 6th-most goals per game when outside of their home arena. These Pacific Division rivals also met in the first round of the playoffs last season. The series opener was in Edmonton, which had 7 goals scored and when they transitioned back up to Canada for Game 5, there were 9 total goals scored. The Oilers also just took down the high-flying Florida Panthers their last time on the ice. That all adds up to a home team win with plenty of goals scored.
