Columbus Blue Jackets ML (+176) over New Jersey Devils

The first puck drop of Sunday will take place in New Jersey as the Devils host the Columbus Blue Jackets. Right off the bat, there is no reason the Devils should be this significant of favorites against any team. The Blue Jackets are no world-beaters, but this game should be more of a pick ‘em. Regardless, that provides great value on Columbus in this spot. New Jersey is likely riding high on their recent defeat of the Colorado Avalanche, and that’s also likely why they’re being given so much respect by oddsmakers. 

However, that was the 3rd-straight road game for the Avs, and they used their backup goaltender because it was the first night of a back-to-back. That shows the level of concern they had with the Devils, as they preferred to rest their starter Alexandar Georgiev for last night’s game against the New York Islanders. To switch the focus on the Jackets, there’s no doubt they have been inconsistent to start this season. However, they’ve also had moments of brilliance. Exactly 1 week ago, they smashed the New York Rangers on the road by the tune of a 5-1 final score. That’s a team with legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations, so Columbus can cruise past the Devils today.

Winnipeg Jets ML (+176) over Vegas Golden Knights

Another road favorite with identical odds at FanDuel Sportsbook is the Winnipeg Jets heading south to take on the Vegas Golden Knights. The Jets sit in 2nd in the Central Division, while the Knights lead the way in the Pacific Division. This is again a case of these teams being much more evenly matched than the odds would suggest. Winnipeg goaltender Conor Hellebuyck is one of the most under-the-radar goalies after leading the NHL in saves made last season. 

He has the ability to shut down this Vegas team that no longer has Max Pacioretty. The Jets are also coming into this matchup off of 3 straight wins. The most recent 2 were both on the road, and the first of the streak came against a great St. Louis Blues team. Similarly, they’ve also beaten the Avalanche on the road this season. Vegas has gotten off to a solid start to the year for sure, but they also barely squeaked by the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0 on home ice. They got the best of the Jets 2 weeks ago, but Kyle Connor and company can get their revenge tonight.
