The Suns host the team that shockingly eliminated them from last season’s playoffs the Dallas Mavericks. Not much has changed in the Valley this offseason roster wise, it’s mostly the same team with a couple of important pieces like head coach Monty Williams and Deandre Ayton getting contract extensions. Dallas, on the other hand, has lost a big time scorer in Jalen Brunson and hasn’t really signed anyone of that magnitude to compensate for his departure. This team relies solely on Luka Doncic to carry them and although that might work for long stretches this season, it’s a risky proposition if something bad were to happened to him. I’m expecting to see a motivated Suns team here, looking for revenge and I wouldn’t be surprised if this were to end in a blowout win for the home team.

Chris Paul to Make 2+ Threes (+148)

CP3 has played the Mavericks 52 times in the regular season over his career and has posted averages of 1.7 made threes on 40.1%. At this stage of his career Paul is no longer capable of driving the ball to the basket like he used to in his younger days, instead he is mostly trying to get his teammates involved while being a spot up shooter from around the perimeter. That being said, I believe he can drain at least 2 threes in tonight’s game without any issues. Looking at the 7 game series in last year’s playoffs against the Mavs, he scored at least one three in every single game of those and in 3 of them he scored 2 or more. With so many quality three point shooters on the Suns team I think Dallas will find it difficult to cover everyone and that’s Paul’s chance to shine here.

Spencer Dinwiddie to Score 20+ Points (+225)

Only 7 teams in the NBA finished with a worse offensive rating last year than the Dallas Mavericks. With Brunson departing in free agency, the Mavericks will have to find ways to get their offense going this season. Spencer Dinwiddie is definitely one guy capable of stepping up. He finished the regular season averaging 13.7 points per game and his contribution offensively is one of the main reasons the Mavs went that far in last year’s playoffs. He scored 20 or more points 5 times during their run which is impressive considering he played an average of just 27.8 minutes per game. His three-point shooting was also really solid at 41.7% on 5.3 attempts per game, so I expect head coach Jason Kidd to expand his role even further this season. Dallas won’t be able to hang together teams if it’s only Doncic carrying the load offensively, Dinwiddie is the perfect player to fill in the gaps when Luka doesn’t have it going.
