Manchester United racing to beat Arsenal to Lisandro Martinez transfer as Erik ten Hag leads push for Ajax star to follow Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen deals

Manchester United are pushing to complete a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez – who is also being pursued by Arsenal.

The Argentine centre-back, 24, is a favourite of new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag following their time together at the Eredivisie giants.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Martinez has told Ajax he wants to leave for the Premier League and United are looking to pounce.

It is understood Ten Hag wants a deal wrapped up as soon as possible, with the Gunners also trying to secure the highly-rated defender.

United have already agreed to sign left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and free agent Christian Eriksen – both of whom were strongly recommended by Ten Hag.

Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong also remains linked with a £56m move to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, the Red Devils face a battle to keep star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal sensation, 37, has told the club he wants to leave this summer, with Chelsea and Barcelona considering a bid.
