Karl-Anthony Towns recently signed a massive extension to keep him in Minnesota for at least four more seasons during the first hours of free agency. KAT’s extension kicks in during the 2024-25 season.
The former Kentucky Wildcat has played for the T-Wolves since he was drafted first overall during the 2015 NBA Draft. Since then, he’s accomplished a lot, earning three All-Star selections, two All-NBA selections, and won Rookie of the Year in 2015. He’s also led Minnesota to the playoffs twice, although they haven’t been able to advance past the second round while KAT has been in a T-Wolves jersey.
“I call this place home,” Towns said, “I said that since I came in, I said that since Flip called me after the draft day and I was there, and everyone was at Target Center.”
“I said this was home, and I never intended to lie to y’all. I really felt that this place has been nothing but fabulous to me and my family and has made this journey so fun and this journey so worth it. I’m just very honored to be able to put that TImberwolves jersey on for many more years to come, and I’m honored that I get the chance to do it with these wonderful guys next to me. So the future of this team, this organization, is bright, and it’s time to shine.”

The future is bright for Minnesota behind the leadership of KAT, the emergence of Anthony Edwards, and the acquisition of Rudy Gobert via trade this summer. The Timberwolves will be looking to reverse some of the game’s trends as they employ a Twin-Towers lineup anchored by Towns and three-time DPOY Gobert. Towns believe that he and Gobert can make up for each other’s deficiencies, which is why they’ll be a playoff contender for seasons to come.
“I expect a lot of winning, for sure,” KAT said while smiling, “It’s just a lot of winning. Like I said, I’m not up here just blowing smoke, I really wanna try to bring a championship right here to Minnesota, and I think that Rudy adds a huge component to that. He’s gonna be a massive part of us being a championship team, and my job is to help him as much he’s gonna help me.”
“His strengths are my weaknesses, and his weaknesses are my strength, so we’re gonna be able to play off of each other.”

The Timberwolves (46-36) ended the season seventh in the West after the Play-In Tournament and lost in first round of the playoffs to the Memphis Grizzlies in six games.
