Jurgen Klopp has ‘overachieved’ under Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group owners.

That’s the view of talkSPORT host Scott Minto, who was discussing news that the John W. Henry-led consortium is looking to sell the club after 12 years in charge.

The Athletic report that FSG have invited offers for the club, who have since released a statement saying they are ‘open to investment’ but ‘fully committed’ to Liverpool.

A sale would represent a massive change for the Reds, who have been rebuilt from top four challenges to regular trophy winners under the Americans, winning every prize on offer under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The boss has always been keen to praise his employers given their investment in Anfield and a new training centre, but net spend figures show their transfer activity hasn’t always been competitive.

But despite that, Klopp has taken Liverpool back to the top of the game with Champions League and Premier League wins, and Minto thinks he’s outperformed the tools he’s been given by FSG.

“Jurgen Klopp has basically completely overachieved in what he’s done over the last five years, he’s been nothing short of sensational,” the former Chelsea and Benfica defender said.

“I’m not going to say he’s been brilliant despite them but it’s not been because of them.

“They found it very difficult to compete, the collapse of the European Super League, although the big boys around Europe are not going away on that, may have a part to do with it.

“The fact that Chelsea sold for two-and-a-half-billion plus another one-and-three-quarter-billion guaranteed money as well, and Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs around the world…

“The name Liverpool around the world is right up there with the very best of them so they fact that they bought it for £300million and you can times ten and maybe even add some on top of that as well.

“I think they realise what they have to do, but they’re probably not prepared to do it, whether they want to do it or not. There’s not many multi billionaire owners out there but I think there are a few…”
