‘He’d have me to deal with!’ – Jamie Carragher won’t allow Sadio Mane transfer to Bayern Munich as Liverpool star labelled a ‘machine’ by Jurgen Klopp after heroics at Aston Villa

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher insists he will take matters into his own hands if his ‘favourite player’ Sadio Mane tries to leave the club this summer.

The Senegal star netted the winner in a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday night which kept the Reds’ Premier League title hopes alive.

His heroics followed surprise reports of interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, sparking fears Mane could be on the move this summer.

The 30-year-old is out of contract in 2023 and, with Mane set to enter the final year of that deal, Liverpool are yet to agree new terms.

However, ex-Reds defender Carragher has assured fans the Senegalese forward will be staying at Anfield, even if he has to block the move himself.

“When I have watched Liverpool as a fan, Mane is my favourite player,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“There is just something about Mane. He’s sacrificed himself at times and the shift he puts in.

“He, along with [Mohamed] Salah, has been doing that for five years – they are never injured!

“They are there week in, week out for 90 minutes, getting the numbers up there every week.

“What they have done for this football club is unbelievable.

‘I’m a huge fan of Sadio Mane and I can assure you he will be going nowhere because I will not let him go to Bayern Munich, he’d have me to deal with!”

With the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp started Salah on the bench at Villa Park and saw his side go behind on three minutes.

However, Joel Matip quickly equalised and Mane’s goal ensured the Reds go level on points with Manchester City, who play their game in hand at Wolves on Wednesday night.

When asked about Mane, Klopp said: “He’s a machine, I told him after the game.

“He is a massive player. His physicality is brutal. He is a mix of technique, desire and physicality when at the moment everyone has a few yards in the legs.

“You can see it with him to be honest. Top goal, he is just a fantastic world-class player.”
