When he’s not presenting Drive on Mondays, Adrian Durham is almost certainly travelling to a game somewhere.
The legendary talkSPORT host’s dulcet tones has been heard up and down the country, in Europe and on the other side of the world.
From Premier League to Champions League, EFL to FA Cup – our Adrian has seen it all this season.
Now, as the Kop travel across the Channel to Paris for the Champions League final against Real Madrid for what is sure to be a noisy affair, we wanted to know what the best atmospheres he’s experienced in the 2021/22 season?
5. Watford 4-1 Manchester United
I’m one of the few people who can say they saw Watford win a home game this season. They destroyed Man United who made Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis look like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez at their peak.
The noise levels, laughter and joy when Harry Maguire got sent off were a different level too It wasn’t a regular theme at Vicarage Road this season though.
Most read in Champions League
4) Villareal 2-3 Liverpool
The home side were 2-0 down form the first leg which had been comfortable for Jurgen Klopp’s side. So Unai Emery needed something special and despite torrential rain all day, the Villareal fans put on a brilliant show that night.
By half time they’d wiped out the deficit. But then their keeper was nutmegged twice and decided to go for an inexplicable wander outside his box allowing Liverpool to turn it around.
3) Watford 1-2 Burnley
Yes Vicarage Road again, but not the home fans this time.
Travelling fans are usually much more energised and noisy – they’re determined to enjoy the day even if the chances are they won’t get a result. The Burnley fans in the away section were superb, non-stop noise and singing, and they were rewarded with a win after falling behind.
And they celebrated the goals and the full-time whistle with the players which was lovely to see.
2) Rangers 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt (Frankfurt win 5-4 on penalties)
The Frankfurt fans were absolutely sensational in Seville. They all wore white, the Frankfurt third strip, and it was a powerful wall of white at one end.
They had a MASSIVE banner draped over both tiers of their section. They also had some extraordinary top tier/bottom tier detailed choreography involving alternating flag-waving and singing, and doing it for a sustained period. There were moments when I couldn’t take my eyes off it even while the game was going on.
In the second half they went with some non-dangerous pyro-style lighting which was a breath-taking sight. It was a display of phenomenal support which was seriously memorable.
Frankfurt edged the win on and off the field that night.
1) Rangers 3-1 RB Leipzig
Wow. The succession of cleverly worded Rangers songs, especially the Belinda Carlisle tribute to John Lundstram, were all sung so loud and proud you couldn’t help but be impressed.
But when Lundstram scored the crucial goal the noise levels and the power of the Ibrox support went to a place I’ve never ever experienced at a football match in all my years watching the game all over the world.
It’s a night that will stay with me forever.
