College basketball Thanksgiving parlay at mega +683 odds today 11/24: Duke is ready to roll

The 2022-23 college hoops season is well underway and the schedule is heating up on Thursday. Among the typical college hoops powers in action are Gonzaga, Michigan State, Duke, Villanova and Kansas, plus many others. It’s the first major slate of the season, headlined by a couple of marquee games.

It’s time to tip off this Thanksgiving slate with a 3-team mega parlay. Let’s get into it.

Duke -20 (-110)

Iowa State ML (+115)

Gonzaga -27 (-110)

Parlay odds: +683

For this parlay, we are going with two favorites against the spread, and one underdog on the money line. Here is a breakdown of each leg.

Duke -20 (-110) over Oregon State

The Blue Devils haven’t looked great this year against quality competition, but that should be expected for such a young side. However, one thing Duke has done very well is blow the doors off inferior teams. That should certainly be the case on Turkey Day, as the Blue Devils are squaring off against an Oregon State team that is at a severe disadvantage on both ends of the floor. Entering this game, the Beavers are outside the top 200 in adjusted offensive shot quality and rank 112th in defensive shot quality. Outside of a 17-point win against Bellarmine, Duke has covered the spread in each of the games where it was laying double digits. I expect another blowout effort from the Blue Devils in this one.

Iowa State ML (+115) over Villanova

For our second leg, we’re going with the Iowa State Cyclones on the money line. Iowa State was an excellent nonconference team a season ago, and a lot of that boiled down to its defensive intensity. The Cyclones are one of the best defensive teams in the nation per KenPom, and that doesn’t bode well for a Villanova team that’s struggling mightily to generate offense. The Wildcats are playing slow and using a large portion of the shot clock because they are unable to generate high-quality shots. Per Shot Quality, Villanova ranks just 153rd in offensive shot quality. This will be an issue against an Iowa State side that is 1st in adjusted defensive shot quality. The Cyclones are live for the short upset, so I’ll happily take this price.

Gonzaga -27 (-110) over Portland State

It was a concerning start to the season for some Gonzaga fans. The Bulldogs escaped with a win over Michigan State before getting thrashed by Texas in what was a great spot for the Longhorns at home. However, they seemed to have righted the ship with a convincing win over Kentucky. The overarching factor that went into this victory was the Zags getting back to their bread and butter on offense. Gonzaga pushed the pace, got easy buckets in transition and hit outside shots as a result. Look for that offensive blueprint to continue against a Portland State team that is surprisingly playing at a faster tempo than Gonzaga this season. Both teams are inside the top 25 in possessions per game, which should give the Zags plenty of chances to extend their lead and cover this massive spread.
