Bukayo Saka could equal Arsenal legend Ian Wright’s incredible feat as Mikel Arteta’s side face West Ham in Premier League clash

Bukayo Saka could equal a record set by Arsenal legend Ian Wright when they face West Ham in the Premier League this weekend.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are set to travel across the capital to the London Stadium on Sunday to face the Hammers, and it’s set to be a huge clash.

And Saka could help Arsenal cement their place in the top four against their London rivals by completing a rare feat last completed by Wright in 1994.

The legendary striker netted 23 spot-kicks during his seven years at the club.

In fact Wright is the second-highest ever penalty scorer for the Gunners in the Premier League on 18, just four shy of Thierry Henry on 22.

As part of that stunning spot-kick haul, he once managed to score from the spot in three consecutive Premier League games.

Now, 28 years on, academy product Saka could also score three in a row.

The England international has converted a penalty in his last two games – one against Chelsea and then another in the win over Manchester United.

The youngster had previously only scored a penalty for his side when playing for their academy, netting in the FA Youth Cup versus Tottenham Hotspur back in 2018/19.

However, he’s had a cool head on his shoulders when given the opportunity to net the Gunners’ spot-kicks in their last two games.

The young star scored his first penalty since missing one in the Euro 2020 final for England last summer – thumping the ball down the middle after being fouled by Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta.

And Saka stepped up to score against Manchester United after he was taken down by Alex Telles in the build up to his teammates go at goal.

Saka’s next opponents, West Ham, have conceded just five penalties in the league this campaign – the eight lowest in the league – though, so he’ll have to work hard to get his treble.

But should he do so, given how much Wright has expressed his affection for the 20-year-old, it’s likely the Arsenal legend won’t mind him joining in on his record.
