With another waves of cuts approaching on Tuesday the Bucs got a head start Sunday afternoon. The team has officially released wide receiver Vyncint Smith and waived safety Troy Warner. They also reached an injury settlement with outside linebacker JoJo Ozuogwu. The move releases him from the team’s injured reserve list.
Smith was a long shot to make the team in a loaded receiver room. He’s has had a good camp for the Bucs and brings size to the room. However, he’s been outplayed by the returning veterans and the undrafted free agents added to the roster. The move allows the Bucs to give more reps to other wide outs on the roster.
Warner was an interesting case as he was protected several times last year on the practice squad, where he spent the entire season. The younger brother of 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, missed several practices this summer due to an undisclosed injury. He was overtaken on the depth chart by undrafted free agent rookie Nolan Turner. Turner has been a staple on special teams and has had a good camp. Even picking off Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
