Asshole Saints Reportedly Trying to Steal the Honey Badger from Eagles

After failing to land a safety during the draft, the Saints now are expected to re-visit their talks with free-agent Pro-Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu and make an aggressive push to try to add him to their roster, per sources. Mathieu was born and raised in New Orleans.

New Orleans can fuck off for real. We need them to lose next year, and they’re generally annoying to begin with. The Eagles need the Honey Badger, unless you believe this fugazi quote from Howie after the draft:

“I think where we are at the safety position – we have a lot of confidence in Anthony (Harris). That’s why we brought him back. We have a lot of confidence in Marcus (Epps). Marcus played really good football for us last year. We have a lot of confidence in K’Von (Wallace). We brought Andre (Chachere) here last year, we have Jared (Mayden), and we’ll continue to look at that position.

You know, nothing imminent, but again, we probably have a higher vision of that room than maybe is perceived.

It’s total nonsense. Anthony Harris is on a second-straight one-year deal, which is the definition of kicking the can down the road. Marcus Epps and K’Von Wallace are rotational guys who mean more to the special teams unit right now. Same with Chachere.

Safety is the weakest position on the Eagles roster, offense or defense. You could extend that to the defensive backfield if you wanted. They needed to replace two safeties and a corner and so far all they did was bring back Harris, which means there are two more moves to make. Mathieu goes a long way towards shoring up the unit, but even then they still need to go out and sign a free agent corner.

At the risk of burying the lede, we should ask ourselves if Jonathan Gannon even gives a shit about the safety position. You and I could sit back 30 yards from the line of scrimmage and do an okay job of not letting a receiver get behind us. The other question is if Gannon would ask more of his safeties if they were better, and hopefully we’ll get to answer that question at some point this year. Right now they badly need help in the defensive backfield. They had a really good draft but came out of it with plenty of unanswered roster questions.
